I don't know exactly what the mod is called, but have you already searched through the Silent Hunter III Mods Workshop thread? There's a lot of pages in that sub-forum (pun intended :haha:) that may have what you're looking for...

I think there are current links to a download URL as well as some instructions for the most recent version starting with the posts from mid-2010; you can either read the whole thread til you get there, or go to the last page and work your way back until you find them - post #225 or thereabouts.
