Hello everyone,
SH4 is still not working perfectly.
After the third time I try the simulator (with or without mods) something is still in the wrong way.
I tried with UBM - UBM+RFB2+RSRDC - UBM+TMO2+RSRDC @ 1605x1050 60hz
In the menu, missions menu, the navigation map and when I pause the game
the system is overloaded and shotdown the computer.
Is the only game that gives me these problems...and I would not burn my motherboard or video... :)
Of course I followed the advice on installation and removal...reboot reboot reboot...
I can not believe that a 512 MB video card or a processor like mine unable to run a game like that.
If I think of game engines like HL2 from Valve (forgive the example ... but you will understand) I seem to be plunged into a nightmare.
In 3d setting of my video i use Optimal Performance setting..but probably some of you would suggest.
For example Anisotropic settings..anti aliasing...mipmap.
And so on.
Here'is my specs:
RAM 3 GB
Intel Core 2 E7200 @ 2.53 Ghz
Asus P5Q Pro
Ati HD 4850 _512MB_
Driver Packaging Version 8.791-101026a-107884C-ATI
Catalyst™ Version 10.11
Directx version 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Win XP + SP2
I have not had any problems in installation (like the s.o. the video drivers etc) but on the site amd recommend a fix to those who have had installation problems....recommended to install it?

I don't see any reason why your system cannot handle SHIV and I'm inclined to believe that the issue is not with the game. I have a suggestion that, if you haven't already done this, it may help.
First: Right click on "My Computer"
and choose "Properties" at the bottom of the menu.
When the System Properties interface appears, click on the ":Advanced" tab. On the top section under "Performance", click on the "Settings" button. In the Performance interface, the "Visual Effect" tab should already be open. If not, click on it and choose the "Adjust for best performance" radio button. Then, while still in that window, click on "Advanced" and make sure both "Programs" radio buttons are selected. If not, select them, click "OK" on all windows until they're gone. Try running the game and see if there is any improvement.

Your video card appears more than capable to run SHIV, I run it with an nvidia 6600, but I'm not the least bit familiar with those dual core processors. Are all your motherboard drivers installed ? Did you run dxdiag to see if there are any directx issues ? have you tried putting the game graphics into it's lowest detail settings ? Did you try setting the video driver settings to a lower detail setting ?
There's so many possibilities, you must start from the basics.
Another possibility-The Ati HD 4850 may not be fully DX9 compatable.

@ Wernher :
I tried your advice...but nothing has changed. For example, when I came from a training mission of the school, while I was on the screen to exit some fan started to spin faster. I click exit and the fan now ... suddenly slowed.
Always the same thing. In mission, when I move the map to chart the course.
@ MaddogK :
Yes i think all the drivers are installed...indeed, I am sure. The fact remains that check if there is any update...
I have no problems with directx...but if anyone can help I attach the file.
I also tried the low resolution..and the result is what you just read above.
I do not know whether to cry when I think SH3 runs better with the settings to maximum. :timeout:
Thank you guys!!
Sorry my english

One word: overheating! :D
If you have a look in Windows logfiles -> ATI, there'll probably be some red marked errors...
If you want to do a test, then enable your ATI overclock and manually set fan speed to 100% and do another run. It will be noisy, but it'll show you if the system still shuts down...

I used to have this problem with Silent Hunter 3, and believe it or not running a music program like Winamp in the background while the game is playing really helps keep the program running. And if the program crashes, having the program running in the background causes my computer to crash to desktop instead of completely freezing up.

Hi Arael my only background programs are: avast 5 , Six Engine (power saving software from asus) however, that I need to put the turbo system (fans, etc. ..)...zone alarm and all the usual svchost running always. Note that for example I removed one of the svchost spool.exe

Hi Jan i take look in C:\WINDOWS\Logs...no log files Ati.
I'll add a fan? :)

No, use the event viewer. Here's one way to open it: http://www.windows-help-central.com/windows-xp-event-log.html
Look for an entry called ACEEventLog...
A fan wouldn't harm :D but I would wait until established what the problem actually is.

There is something for everyone in short.
For now I switch the fan to 85 > 100 , alternating other video resolutions ,

everything seems to go well @ 1680 with medium settings and ship map,hi skin ship, volumetric fog active.

And no doubt..i should buy the fans....

You can try a utility called WhoCrashed? (http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed), an automatic crash dump analyzer. Upon restart, run this utility and see if it tells you it was a graphics system problem or something else entirely.
I tend to agree that your video card may be overheating. You also could be having CPU overheating. I've seen a breakdown of the thermal paste between the CPU and heat sink that necessitated taking apart the computer, removing and replacing the thermal paste. That also was a failure happening only in SH4, not any other game.
But check out WhoCrashed to see if we're barking up the right tree.:D

Hi Rockin the problem occurs only with sh4. Last night I used SH3 with GWX
with the video card fan @ 100% and nothing happened. Keeping an eye on the temperatures I've seen is the video card of up to 107 °....w00w..then she is definitely the "problem" .
Now I'm informing to mount a good heatsink for my Ati and a front and rear fan for the case...I think it's more than enough..if not exaggerated!!
Thank you!!!

Yeah... my 4870x2 went to 115 degree before shutting down the system... :nope:
Problem is, once it's been running that hot, the thermal paste turns into something almost like concrete = totally useless.
And it ruins the fan - if it wasn't broken before... :shifty:
May I recommend Arctic cooling fans? Very efficient and relatively cheap...

My present 5970 is cooled by Arctic and it hasn't seen a temp above 55 degree yet... http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=174638 :D
Best of luck! :salute:

Hi,
I'm back again.
I stripped the whole pc to clean everything..it's embarrassing to tell you how the video card was reduced..
The HD 4850 has a relatively small heatsink outputs and I found almost 2 cm of dust between the fan and the heatsink....and this, of course, was the reason for the overheating.
Considering that these cards are already hot from the factory specifications, now the temperature is about 50°C (idle)...excellent.
So I tried again the game at different resolutions and activating or not the graphics options available...And I think I can say that the problem at this point, it is inherent in the graphics engine.
Excluding reboots due to overheating..there are still light delays on the graphics.
That was not a great engine was already evident...but I was hoping for some improvements.
Patience.
Bearing in mind that we all have to constantly improve our work,I hope that those of Ubisoft inspired by a serious group such as the Valve.
However now I have bought a better fan and heatsink to improve the overall efficiency of the computer. :DL
Many thanks to all !

Hello everyone,
Sorry if I open this topic again ... but I need to get answers because I'm seriously pissed off with ubisoft.
A few months ago I bought the expansion uboot missions, through digital download...I installed everything and I played quietly (without installing the patch 1.4 since the 1.5 cumulative is contained in UBM)
Now, since I had to replace the operating system with win7,I installed everything again ... and surprise ... UBM requires the activation code.
Ubisoft considers that my serial has already been used 3 times.
So 3 installations.
So I wrote to them asking for activation code as their server was refusing to provide online ... and I gave them all the specifications for the purchase made back payments on their website .. etc ...on them to come to avoid the suspicion that it was a pirated copy and then are obliged to provide me with the code I need.
After more than a month of correspondence unnecessary someone (a certain Alex) tells me that I have to wait a month to be able to resume using their servers.
I send him to hell because he waited a month to tell me something trivial like "if you wait a month, the server deletes any missed log-in and gives you new credentials to get the activation code".
So wish them the worst ... wait a month and after installing everything again, after removal of several folders for the file system to try again ... give me the code through the server. Nothing ... nada.
So I rewrite it again with another patient for further clarification on why I still can not get the code.
Hey, listen, listen ... well ... 2 months after they wake up and told me that the version of UBM as a digital download is not compatible with my version of SH4 which is on DVD .... I swear ... But ... better not tell.
But nasty cow ... how can you tell me if such a thing until now has been fully installed and I played there for good?
Can anyone tell me if it's a scam ... or how I can not move in a legal way (so no crack) to get it working again?
It is not for the money ... it was 9euro ... but then for the attitude and the attitude of these inept ubisoft struggling to feed people in good faith that pays.
Forgive my outburst and English.
Thank you for your attention

Hello Jan. .. I understand.
And if I try to download it again with the downloader that I saved it with the copy of the expansion, they give me a new code?
Maybe the guys care, are unable to know that..with the downloader you can download it again and certify it.
I am not surprised that there is a black hole in the internal communication ...
Thanks

I too hate ubisoft's antipiracy measures.
:har:
jokes ... if you take security measures ... it is hoped that those who adopt them, know how to overcome them .. also check that do not interfere with legal registration.
Otherwise, what the ---- I paid for? Um ... I have not pointed out before ... it is not for the money ... 9euro are not the problem .. but the stench that the way they manage users.
I speak of respect and professionalism ...
Thanks Daniel!
EDIT: was purchased after some time had been released gold ... only because I have a DVD version ... and then, of course it was useless for me to have 2 copies, I opted for the digital
I'm goin' down

Hey ConteBlecio - have you tried raising the problem on UbiSoft Tech Support web? http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/2881085392
But instead of wasting countless hours, why not buy the DVD? It's less than $10 after all... :hmmm:
And best of all: you can install it over and over, no DRM, no activation etc...

Hello Jan. I contacted the email support (phones are not active) and then I have also written on the Italian forum (I'm Italian).
On the Italian forum I think kids are the moderators as I was advised to contact support.
Well ... like asking a greengrocer how can I fix an engine desmodromic
Assistance contacted me by mail asking other data and saying that the problem was turned over to the dowload section of Ubi.
The problem is not spend another 10euro. The problem is giving it to them.
And then for sh4 (again) seems a waste. Rather point to other alternatives
Thanks!

I myself have bought them (and dozens of other games) in the gamersgate site, which according to them, allows the game to be downloaded 'anytime, anywhere'. So the game is forever there, with your activation key. Now... it does not say anywhere that I have an 'x' limited number of activations. Damn they all to hell if I find out that is is the case.
Hey conteBlecio, where did you buy your copy?
Oh and by the way, I guess we all suport you in your disapointment towards ubisofts treatment of consumers. Guess they are just showing you the finger and singing "ridi, pagliaccio"

My copy of SH4 from a videogame retailer.
The UBM it's digital and I purchased on the website of Ubisoft.
Other purchases I made them on Steam Valve ... and as you say...Unlimited downloads and registrations.
Can sing what they want...but then do not complain for the pirated copies that are out there and for people who lose their patience.
Whether you have 15 or 50 and you are a fan of this game you like to buy original copies.
And I do not think is asking too much if you claim to use a copy that you paid for going to get my ass in the yard like me.
Maybe they are failing and need money ... ... but this attitude does not help them, given what we read on all forums and all over the world.
Try to hack their server and see if they do not run for the party.
It would be right.
Well then I've got to also complain.
Bye!

Hi,
while waiting for the problem is resolved I would like to clarify a few things about the resolution.
Now my HD 4850 ATI (512mb)...works well...but I notice that on some sub TMO and sh4 to 1.4 (did with TMO 2),I suffer from slight stuttering ... or as if it were a sort of "scrolling " dirty when I turn the camera inside the command room or when I'm in the turret.
I post my settings (maximum) so maybe someone can give me some advice:
1680 x 1050 (landscape)
AA = 8x
Anisotropic Filter = 16x
Catalyst AI = Advanced
Mipmap Detail Level = High Quality
Wait Vertical Refresh = On unless application specifies
Adaptive AntiAliasing = Enabled
Unfortunately I can not remember if sh4 without mods turn graphically better. Maybe TMO has heavier graphic changes.
RFB is lighter than graphics?
Thanks in advance
Jan Kyster

Now my HD 4850 ATI (512mb)...works well...I find that statement incredible hard to believe... :D
... especially with these settings
AA = 8x
Anisotropic Filter = 16x
Catalyst AI = Advanced
Mipmap Detail Level = High Quality
Wait Vertical Refresh = On unless application specifies
Adaptive AntiAliasing = EnabledTurn down AA to 2x or Off, set AI to Standard (you'll get better image quality, no need to force optimizations, when you decrease AA) and maybe turn down MipMap one notch.
AA is the real killer though...
Don't forget to play with graphics options inside SH4.
Environment effects takes it's toll as do Particles detail, terrain objects and LOD size.
ConteBlecio
06-05-11, 06:09 AM
I find that statement incredible hard to believe... :D
Ahahah...yea i know...but really works fine, except of course the details of particles and terrain, which are certainly as critical details.
But only with mods!
I try some solutions .. and maybe I'll have a version with a mod made ---8203;---8203;here and there, hoping for compatibility with each other.
Thanks!
