I'm interested in seeing if anyone else on here is an avid gun collector/target shooter! So, what's your favorite gun in your possession? Most accurate? Prettiest...ugliest? Wish list?

If so, let's see some pictures! I'll post mine once I'm back home on my own computer. BUT My collection includes (by date of purchase/construction completion):

- Mosin-Nagant M1891/30 7.62x54R
- Taurus Model 63 .22 Repeater
- CZ52 7.62x25 pistol
- DPMS AP4 Law Enforcement Carbine (5.56 M4-style AR)
- Ruger GP100 .357 Revolver
- Remington 1100 12G Shotgun
- Yugoslavian SKS 7.62x39R
- Romanian (Czech BRNO built) .22 training rifle

You're a government agent and this is bait to get me to list my firearms so you can take them away isn't it? Ya, I know your kind come off all friendly like then wammo next thing I know you're knocking on my door flashing badges. :88)

1. German scoped K43
2. Venezuelan FN49
3. Soviet TT33

The list was much longer having had a slew of bolt actions. But I got married and those were the ones I parted with. Out of all of those I'd say the 1903 Springfield was the best shooter and most accurate of the bunch. Should have never let that one go.

Between pistols, shotguns, rifles, collectibles etc we've got about 65 firearms in total (all legal)

K98 Mauser with Dachau numbers and paperwork... never been fired (by me)

Colt AR-15 with 4 power scope, bayonet, numerous magazine styles (fully auto)

MAK-90 (Fully Auto)

M1 Carbine

M14

numerous hunting rifles and shotguns, my preferred hunting rifle is the Winchester 308.

Couldnt say which one is most accurate as some have not been fired in a while, but the 308 is sighted in almost perfectly at 200 yds and makes the mark quite well.

as for pictures... I'll have to do some diging. I dont think i have any on this machine.

Very jealous of you individuals with the Class IIIs...-sigh- someday. That's very interesting about the K98...I'm somewhat of a bolt-action nut; I've always felt that older rifles showed more craftsmanship and "character". Thanks for the response!

that K98 is a beautiful rifle. Of course it has been extensively restored to like new condition. I believe that it was built in the POW section of Dachau - which, while a shame - its important that such things be preserved.

I really cant wait for the opportunity to fire it.

just remembered - i think the pics are on my portable drive which is currently on loan to a friend in Dallas. I expect it back soon.

we (my father and I, I'm still out to apply for a FOID card, but we live on a farm so it's alright) have a .22 rifle, a .410 shotgun (both of those aren't really the kind that have names, they look very generic)
but the newest pride and joy is a Taurus Judge.

it's a combination .45 and .410 pistol. Obviously for personal defense. and, even better, it's a revolver.

I don't own any, as it'd be a bit of a hassle for me to do so right now (see location), but next week I'm visiting a buddy of mine in Florida again, and shooting guns will be a must. He's got a collection that is vaguely similar to Radtgaeb's actually, or would like to be similar since he's looking to buy an SKS. He's got a Mosin, a .22 semi-auto training rifle, a .22 revolver (which I think is a Ruger, but I'm not 100% certain), and a CZ-75 with a couple of different barrels.

Can't wait - really got hooked on this American pastime of yours :O:Too bad 9mm ammo is such a pain in the butt to obtain these days, afaik it's still rather expensive.

The only weapon I currently own is an '03 Springfield, built in 1942 by Remington Arms. It can't match the Garand for quick-fire, but it's a nice old rifle and I like it a lot.

@Rock...Don't you just love 7.62x25TOK? My buddy was bragging about his .40S&W Glock...until I sent a round through both sides of the the old horse wagon that we use as a backstop. I'd never use my CZ as a carry gun...a load that hot would be downright irresponsible to use if you'd ever have to discharge in public.

@Steve...The Garands are nice, yeah...but as I stated before, I'm a bolt-action man for the most part, so I completely understand having a deep admiration for that 1903! I hope to get my hands on one at some point.

@Golden...yeah, that's a piece that MUST be preserved. It's historically important, and you're a lucky man to possess one. It's one of those situations where it's horrifying that something like that exists, but it needs to be preserved.

@CCIP...9mm ammo is hard to come by up there in Canada? For shame! Down here in Middle-of-Nowhere, Indiana 9mm is about $10-$15 per box of fifty rounds (compared to my cartridge of choice, the .357 Magnum which is just shy of $25/box)...hence why my next purchase will probably be a Glock 19 or CZ75.

I was very interested in the Taurus Judge series while I was trying to determine a carry pistol...but I read an article on www.theboxotruth.com (http://www.theboxotruth.com) (GREAT ballistic performance site) that showed that the standard .410 loads won't penetrate a denim or leather jacket. However, it's probably safe to say that it'd still ruin someone's day if you popped them in the face; it would probably still make a very decent car gun. "No, Mr. Carjacker...you will NOT pull me out of the driver's seat."

I'd have to say that, while my AR is nice, clean, and pretty; the SKS is by far my favorite piece. That thing will eat anything you feed it, I could hit it with a semi, bury it in the mud, and pick it up again and it'd still keep smiling and shooting. Can't ever fault the Ruskies for making solid, dependable, easy-to-maintain weapons. :salute:

I fired the 1903 after buying it to see how it was and it was pretty good, cleaned it and don't intend to shot it again. I used to shot the M1 before I got the M1A. Haven't gone out to a range in about 4 years so I'm sure I'm a little rusty in my marksmanship.

You wouldn't be disappointed with the Nagant. My father and I both have one. His is an M-44 (carbine, swing-out bayonet) and mine's the full 91/30. BOTH are solid guns; mine was grouping in half-dollar-sized formations out of the box. I simply cannot stop singing the praises of a gun that only cost me $70 that can hit anything you point at it at 100+yds...and everything within 10 feet to the left or right of the target as well (yay for backsplash!)

You're right. I forgot the LeMat. And I even helped write rules for it for a boardgame I worked on with a friend! :damn:

The same friend collects older weapons. He owns a Sharps, a rolling-block Remington, an 1870s-era pisotl he got from a guy carrying it around a gun show in a box ("Grandpa died, and we found it in his attic. We don't want the damned thing in the house!"). He also has a big bunch of Uberti replicas, including a .58 caliber Civil War-style muzzle-loading rifle, which is a hoot to shoot. :D

My collection isn't as big as it once was, had to sell some, mostly Civil War rifles, some have decent value, some are POS I dug out of the groud metal detecting.

Best gun is a Confed. Richmond rifle musket, last value around 7K, but others selling lower these days. Economy keep going to hell, I'll probably have it auctioned off.

I hunt with a Winchester 3006. I have a nice shooting German 7MM mauser with the original sniper adjustable sites. The site giving it value, but only worth about $1300.

Have about 100 other worthless guns I've bought on construction sites.

The Mosin Nagnat scoped rifle at 850 yards. Not bad for a 60 plus year old shootin iron. Wish I had a play ground like shooter has too.

Unfortunately I don't get out much anymore the TT33 was used mostly to punch paper sillouettes at 25 yards. Been about four years or more since I last fired it.

I don't have pics of mine but here's someone else with their G/K43 in action. Must admit it is an awkward design trying to managing the bolt when I have the scope and mount attached. Also when ejecting brass it absolutely mauls them, making it impossible for reloads.

Apparently you can blame the Russian for strict UK gun laws.

Up until the revolution so I have been told firearms laws in the UK were quite liberal. Then the Russians went and toppled their Tsars, the UK aristocracy got a bit worried with all the plebs having guns so promptly banned most of them.

The family Mosin-Nagants: My Dad's stubby M44 next to my own M91/30. Noticing a pattern in the differences of guns we select? :haha:

Ladies and gentlemen I present...the pawn shop special: I paid $10 for it at a pawn shop in Anderson, IN. The performance and sheen is....well, what you expect.

Savage .17HMR: My squirrel and rabbit popper. :P

The family home defense guns: My Dad's 9mm Hi-Point next to my 12GA automatic. Like I said about the pattern...and may I add that our house is not one that you want to break into.
http://i706.photobucket.com/albums/ww66/kerodecap/defenseguns.jpg

My 2 Pistols: The one on the left is a CZ/VZ-52 in 7.62 TOK. I considered carrying it for a while, but it'd be downright irresponsible as that round travels at about 2,500fps. The one on the right IS my carry gun, a Ruger GP100 in .357 Mag that I love dearly. :)

DPMS AP4LE Carbine: What can I say? I finished this thing off this summer and it is as awesome as it looks. I wish I could afford an EoTech sight though. -sigh-

I have a similar rifle - the G24(t) - a 1941 manufacture from the Považská Bystrica plant ("dou" on the receiver housing). Have you fired it yet?

It's a Bruno manufactured rifle.

Yeah, I've put a few rounds through it, it's a fun gun to shoot...

One thing though, not a huge fan of the little v-notch sight on it.

The UK sucks for firearms

Hopefully when things get more settled workwise this year I'll put in for my SGC (shot gun certificate) for a bit of clay shooting a couple of times a month... Cheapish shotguns ftw - Baikal mp 153 12g semi auto (remmington spr 453) took my fancy, but I also saw a nice benelli (franchi fast 12g semi auto) recently. Criteria are cheap (~ £600-700 new) and reliable, will last a lifetime and not suffer feed issues over light loads and shell brands.
Unfortunately we are limited to 1 in the chamber and 2 in the magazine, unless you do 'practical shotgun' on a FAC, but that doesn't sound like much fun to me.

I guess being single does have some advantages: you don't have some feeble woman who thinks air guns are so dangerous that she wouldn't even hold one for fear it might 'do something'

Very nice - I can't speak for yours, but the I found the open iron sights pretty accurate on mine, at least out to about 250-300m. Kicks like a mule, but a fine rifle - really lets you know you're holding something real.

I love the solid walnut furniture - really gives the rifle a hefty, rugged feel. I'm guessing your numbers match?

Been out of town a few days so late reply but yeah it's an all numbers matching rifle.

I find the gun to be very accurate, it's my eyes that don't agree so much with the sights.:03:

Had one mis-fire, but I attribute that to the 40 year old Russian mil-surp I was firing.

In The Netherlands its quite hard to get one. And it will be harder most likely after saturdays shootout in a shopping mall resulting in 7 ppl shot dead and several serious wounded. Nothing to do with the legal fire arm circulation, but will take blame most likely….

The wooden but end has been damaged quite hard. So will try to find a new one the next time i’m in the states. I only have one clib, wich is enough but since I ones got spoiled…. I want at least one extra pice.

Tonight I will take it to the fire arms range and waste some, cant wait.... :salute:

Sweet little shottie, just need to find all the other barrels now. She'll take .410, 28g, 20g, 16g and 12g all on the one action. Takes down in about 2 seconds, and re-assembles in about 5. :yeah:

I must admit i did :) The last owner kept it in a suitcase with 2 guns but did not really fit in it. So he had 2 handgribs on top of each other, resulting in this damage.

I am a rifle shooter (single shot, bolt action, Anschütz Match 54) and just wanted a handgun for "fun". Meaning no intend to shoot matched and competitions. Just to use it when all rifle ranges are taken and i would have to wait upon my turn. So i was looking for a cheap handgun, but with mechanical perfection.
This was some I was looking for. Very low cost and good performance and cheap ammo!

.223 Rem 140P (S&B)a € 56 = € 0.40 per round

.308 Win (Lapua) 20P a € 37 = € 1.85 per round

pistol
9 mm Luger 50P a € 11,- = € 0.22 per round
.45 ACP (S&B) 50P a € 19,- = € 0.38 per round

i bought 1000 .22 LR CCI Standart Velocity for les then 50 euro! Must say that all prices above are for quantities mentioned with it. If you buy more, you will get some discount.

I am considering to buy a Parker-Hale Model 1200TX (7.62/.308). But you will then spend 100 euros if you start to enjoy... For this, but most for better performance you will have to make your own ammo, what is very time consuming.

Not to many guns here and as I'm old so are all my guns.

Winchester Model 70 in 30.06 Pre 1964 Winchester changed the way they made receivers in 64.

Winchester Model 77 in .22 LR Won a turkey shoot trophy and turkey with this one many years ago.

Here are my two favorite pistols
http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt296/Magic452/Guns.jpg

The top one is a Centennial Arms replica of a Colt 1860 New Model Army in .44 cal. It was issued in 1960. a Centennial thing, and I purchased it then. The last time I fired it 5 of the six cylinders went off at the same time. It's called "flash over" I believe. The only thing that saved me from serious injury was the cylinder on the bottom didn't go off, that one shoots directly into the frame.

The lower is a Colt Officers Model in .22 LR. A very accurate shooting gun.
The patent dates on it are Aug 5, 1884 July 4, 1905 and the last Oct. 5, 1926 The serial number of my gun is 23544 so I think it's pretty old. Just like me:know:

There is a name engraved on the trigger guard Rudy Etchen. He was a staff writer for the NRA American Rifleman and a some what famous shooter in the 50's and 60's. Best known for his shotgun skills.

Magic

Edit As I was digging through my gun stuff today I came across my reloading stuff Interesting as it is all very old.
Found a box of 20 Remington 180 grain 30.06 rounds for $5.90 USD and Winchester Super X for the same.
100 Sierra 150 grain Flat Nose 30-30 bullets. $5.00. Wish I still had that Model 94 30-30 bought it new when I was 14 years old, you could do that then.
100 Winchester .22LR $3.98

I believe the usual term is "chain-fire". I've read that many old pieces have lead smears on the frame from this type of misfire. In case anybody doesn't know this already,a grease or lard "patch" is placed over the ball in each cylinder to prevent this. Even so, they still occured from time to time. This also explains why shooters did not use a two-hand hold, like is usual today. One would certainly not want to have any fingers sticking out in front of the cylinder with those guns! :timeout:

If I ever get my camera fixed, maybe I'll post some pics of my favorite shootin' irons.

Wow. Great thread.

Guns are amazing. The best thing ever though, is Deer Hunting.

I've been shooting my deer with a nice Browning 30-06, but I'm hoping to get a Savage Axis .223 for Christmas for deer. I think it takes more skill to kill a deer with a smaller caliber. 30-06 is too easy. They just immediately drop whether you go for a heart shot or neck shot. Ammo will be cheaper and it'll add to the collection and thrill of the hunt.

You ought to try a shotgun with slugs, that puts the trill in to the hunt anybody can take a deer at range with a 06, with a shotgun you got to get them to get close to you. I'd like to bow hunt, but never had time to take the course, speaking of bow hunting I might just go bow fishing today, I got a 3ft blacktip shark the last time I went out.

Apropå replica weapons that¨s found in all shapes, I remember a funny story that my nephew once told me.

He and some of his friends used to play war games in the Swedish forests in central Sweden. They are adults all together so that their play was very serious. Once they played Navy Seals against Spetznas.

They had spent a weekend in the woods and was now on their way home. It was Monday and one of his friends was going to the bank to withdraw some money.

He went into his bank with his weapon-a kind of machine gun, as an ordinary person can not distinguish from the real thing. bank staff became nervous and pressed the alarm button and soon stood several police cars right outside.

Was told that his friend did not think that it was he who was the bad guy. It was only when the police came rushing and asked him to drop his weapon and lie down, that he understood.

He was, after some time, set free again

His weapons were confiscated, however, and the case went to the city prosecutor

That's all I remember of the story and I do not know if he was accused of something.

I might try that sometime. I know in Illinois, you have to hunt with slugs. But I live in Missouri. I'd rather take a nice rifle though.

Brings out my inner sniper. Go and sit, camouflaged, for hours and make the shot. I go hardcore in November Rifle Season. Get up at 4am, sit til 6pm, as many days as I can.

I don't have a bow, but Missouri bow season just started.

I just came back from shooting skeet for the first time. I'm not real big into shotguns and bird hunting, but I like shooting skeet now.
