Well, we've had 2 days of constant snow so far and everything's ground to a halt due to local council basing the salt/grit depot OUTSIDE town:doh:.

Anyways her is a few shots I've taken so far, might add more later on:

No offense but I have lived in Ottawa and Nova Scotia and brother that is a light dusting. I originally am from Vancouver BC though and a few flakes there causes mass panic and accidents. :O:

Here in Geneva we are getting the second straight day of snow. Last night mass gridlock as the public transport ground to a halt-for 2-5 cm of snow. :rotfl2: Today a lot more ok, still other places in Switzerland are better prepared and I must say to be fair the weather here resembles Vancouver in the winter-grey and rainy much of the time. Must be the lake.

Right now there is about 2 feet of snow behind my house. Have had decent snowfall for the last 3 days. Everything functions without problems, the first day with the heaviest snowfall my buss was 3 minutes late though.

We had a freak snow here in Texas last year. Several inches over night. I can remember one other time in 30 years that it snowed so much here. Usually if it snows here, it will dust the ground and melt by noon

while it didn't grind things to a halt, it probably should have.

Problem in Texas is the ice storms... not so much that its snow and ice, just that on Monday and Tuesday it will be a humid 75 degrees then Wednesday its in the high 30s and it rains ALL DAY LONG and the overnight temperature drops to about 18 degrees which means it begins to sleet, and the existing 1/2 inch of standing water on the ground freezes.

So... Thursday morning :nope: it looks like the Ice Queen has invaded the place. The ground, the roads, the trees, the houses, the power lines - everything frozen. and many of those trees fall or lose limbs due to the weight bringing down power lines with them.

in 2004 (or was it 05) we were without power for 4 days while crews cleaned up the mess.

And of course its Texas. We have to salt the roads once per decade so such a thing takes time to organize. and of course you know i have snow chains in my garage ready to go right? :har:

I was in the army when the last estonian snowfall record was set, we got a foot and 8 inches overnight. We were out on a practice patroll, sleeping outside without tents, since those are too bulky for recon to carry. Good times.

But on a more serious note, I can understand how unexpected snowstorms and ice stroms can **** things over, its just that over here they are not all that unexpected, they happen annually

papa_smurf

Its not that bad once you get onto main roads, as they have been gritted but where I live the road is not gritted due to it not been classed as a priority road - gits.

Were pretty much cut off in the direction of Sheffield, due to both roads going that way, the Snake pass and the Woodhead, are snowed under but that happens most winters.

I tell you, this county aint cut out for this amount of severe weather:nope:

We are getting our first snow of the season here today. They predicted some flurries but it seems to be coming down pretty steady at the moment.

It's the big white fluffy kind and I don't think the ground's cold enough for it to stick - it's melting when it hits the pavement, anyway. Could be a different story if it continues overnight.

Wind Northeasterly 6 to gale 8, occasionally severe gale 9 at first.
Sea State Rough or very rough.
Weather Snow or squally wintry showers.

I can believe the Force 9 gusts, the sea was pretty impressive earlier, lots of white horses. Going to be a fun walk to work tomorrow morning at half six in it.

" funny........It's been years since I've seen snow"

You know every time I watch that scene I wonder how this is at all possible. The guy's been in the Kriegsmarine for years, and presumably has spent quite a good bit of that time in the North Sea, the Baltic, and northern Germany (since, you know, that's where the ports are).

Even assuming there's been no snow in the part of France where he's now stationed, it's autumn 1941 so he couldn't have been operating out of one of the French ports for more than a year or so.

How is it possible that he hasn't seen snow "in years"?

Hmm...

Also, when was the last time he saw his wife?

Never, since he doesn't have one. :O:

It's the LI's wife in the pictures they are looking at, and he's the one who mentions that there would already be snow back home by that time of year. It's der Alte who says that he hasn't seen snow in years, which I find really odd, since one would assume he'd been stationed in a North Sea or Baltic port up until the previous autumn (at least).

Or maybe the German is just not translated well in the subtitles.

I love snow. We got just a couple inches today, just a dusting though. I live too close to the lake to get the heavier snow, but I just gotta drive a few mile south to double or triple the amount. Lived here most of my life, but lived in upstate New York, Potsdam actually, when I was in school. Now those had winters. Bout an hour or so south of Ottawa, So I know what CCIp is talking about.

What amazes me is how people forget to drive in the snow. You don't need 4 wheel drive, you don't need chains. Just common sense. Easy on the throttle and no hard braking.....

Oh the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

It doesn't show signs of stopping,
And I've bought some corn for popping,
The lights are turned way down low,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

When we finally kiss goodnight,
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight,
All the way home I'll be warm.

The fire is slowly dying,
And, my dear, we're still good-bying,
But as long as you love me so,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

But sometimes hard braking and heavy foot on the gas is fun....

Then again it is needed, who would have thought that to slow down going down hill you would need to add some throttle...

Also if you need to turn I put the hand break on, put my wheels on full lock and then pull away, do a nice pivot to point the way I need to go.

Also judicious use of the hand brake can help get the car round corners if you find you are turning but the nose isn't coming round fast enough.
