I didn't even know what an XM-25 was. I had to look it up.

On a brighter note, I now know what I want Santa to leave in my stocking this Christmas. :yeah:

Notice the clear visual documentation of a friendly fire incident

Hmm...a "smart" weapon eh? How long before we here of "friendly fire" incidents due to this weapon:har:

It's not that kind of smart. Actually it is not a smart weapon at all, the rounds are not guided. All it is is a ballistics computer used with the laser range finder, that sets the distance the round must travel before going boom. So basicly its a more accurate and precise flak gun.

It basically will act as a personal portable small mortar. As I heard it described that it can have the same effect as a small mortar without all the pesky set up and trajectory calculations.

Now they dont go off lobbing mortar rounds into 'friendly' crowds willy nilly. I would think they would show the same disgression with this weapon.

Of course stuff happens and the nay sayers will be all up in arms crying and doing their damdest to get this deterrent out of our soldiers hands asap.

Smart gun? A gun still waiting for a doped operator to pull the trigger before it goes fire, cannot be too smart at all. Actually it seems to be a very dumb gun. :D

40mm for president!

Skybird just raised a very interesting point with his "40mm for president" line.

Man-portable, direct-control, indirect-fire weapon.

If I were Secret Service, I'd be hating this idea a lot.

How many presidents have been shot with a pistol? 6-7?

JFK was the only one shot with a Military Weapon IIRC.

Honestly I think the Secret Service has more to fear from a pip bomb or 9mm pistol than a weapon like this.

Well its not like the 10s of thousands of AKs floating around there.

I would imagine that at least for the time being they have a pretty tight inventory control.

Weapons mean nothing if your determined to kill someone.
The only time a special weapon is considered is if you intend to get away.
If I have no intentions of escape?
Your dead.
I'm dead.
Everyone wonders why it happened.

Bit offtopic. But what does XM mean? Besides Satellite radio? :haha:

IIRC:
X means Experimental
M is a letter added to every weapon (kinda like the Navy use of 'Mark')
The # is to specify the specific weapon (not necessarily sequential).

XM-25 means experimental weapon # 25.

XM-25 is a recycled designation so when its accepted in to service it may receive a different M number (there is a M25 sniper rifle that was also called the XM-25 when in development)
