Black bug, outside only

Hey Guys,

I decided to try SH5 again and got some mods installed them launched the game put all the settings on max loaded a historical mission and... black screen when i go to the tower....

Is there anyway around this bug, ive removed all the mods, changed the graphic settings but with no success...

Please could you help me with this problem. :down:

P.S. oddly when i hit the escape button the outside view fades into vision lol

what kind of video card? Have you updated to latest drivers?

I have the 5970 and yes the drivers are up to date :(

Posting what mods your using and in what order will be helpful. Black skies usually mean a conflict somewhere.

I have removed all mods using JSGME, so there should be no conflict :hmmm:

Same problem here, an HD 5970 and drivers 10.10 and everything is black. It has worked fine before but I haven't playes SH5 for some time and evidently some ATI upgrade has broken SH5.

I will try the new 10.11 and see what happens.

(All black with or without mods.)

Yep, I just updated to 10.11 and now it works fine. Evidently a bug with the 10.10 drivers.

Are you sure its not a dodgy card . Try downclocking it in catalyst ati overdrive . Say 5830 specs and see if you have any more problems . I think 5970 is at 2 x 5850 specs .

Did you reinstalled your old drivers... COMPLETELY? This is very hard way. You need some small soft to do that. And than you need to delete some files by hand.
You must have clean system, registry any track and history of any older components. For my XP it`s took about hour... :damn:

Needed to bump this as a friend tried to play multiplayer with me and had this issue.
A reinstall didnt help and the issue was apparent in historical missions as well.

He has ATI cards and ran the game fine when originally purchased.

Left the game on the shelf for a month, returned to it to encounter this bug.

ATI driver issue is probable cause, but which driver and is an update or roll back required ?

ATI guys that are not encountering this problem let me know which driver u have installed please.

I am the Friend Divitor was asking for.
MY system is useing Crossfire MSI hd5770 lighting cards newest 10.11 drivers. I play BFBC2 & Black Ops mostly I am a Old SH3 fan ansd installed SH5 about 2 months ago looked around a little played for a few hour and when back to Black ops Yesturday I tried agian and The interface controls are there But when i look outside all is Black when i switch view I get a small flash of color on the top 2 inches of the monitor for an instant. I sure feel like a driver issuse but i need the 10.11 for BFBC2. I will watch this for updates. Oh i think at the time for install i was 9.7 and all was good then.
If anybody need more info from me ask i will reply.
Oh the is the clean install of patched 1.2 also. No mods new drive & OS is very fresh.

Do you mean *turn Catalyst AI off*? This helped for me now when I tested.

Maybe I should blame ATI instead of Ubisoft this time :03:

Oilsmoke got the bug sorted tweaking his ATI settings.:yeah: I'll ask him to post what he did.
It was an ATI graphics issue causing the outside scenery not to draw.

OK i am sorry for the delay.
I i rolled my ati drivers to version 10.8 and the game runs fine.
i was using 10.11 when i tried the SH5 on my new SSD drive and the screen was blacked out in the outside view. so i would say the ATI drivers set 10.0 & 10.11 are cuase the problem I have not tried the newest set 10.12 yet.

i have the same issue with nvidia i cant upgrade nvidia driver for some reason
on silent hunter 5 but mine pc has the latest nvidia driver weird but true!
when i start on dock there is no black screen but when i start true mission i gott black screen and the game crashes! got stuck.

The problem is because the game doesnt support XFire.

I am running on an HD5970 which has 2 GPU cores. When Calatalyst AI is on it means it is using both cores but many visual glitches and bugs arise due to its incompatability. It was the same with SH4.

Itt might be sound driver becouse after reinnstalling sound driver itt worked bether now!
I updated the sund driver and after that i gett weird screens on SH5.

Hi Guys

I had same black screen bug on the bridge and through periscope views.

I am using ati 5970 with I7 (six core) cpu.

I fixed the problem by turning off two of the cpu cores via the task manager. The game doesn't seem to support any more than four cores.

Are you useing crossfired cards if So turn it off, this solved my problem in windows 7. Now i can play & see in the 3d world.

Damm i hoped you did. Not sure what to tell you than. 11.3 are the ones i use. But i was running crossfired 5770 msi cards after i turned my corssfire off it worked. Just a note but it ran fine in XP. you could roll back to a 10.8 or so and see if that helps. I read it worked for a few other.

bigduke, slide it over to performance. That's what I had to do. I have a crossfire setup as well, so I also had to disable crossfire to get this to work. :cry:

Had this problem myself with my 5970 and ATI drivers,the only solution I've found is reverting to the 10.10 drivers and disabling catalyst AI in the catalyst control panel. Hope it helps mate.

Had the same problem (Because of the low price I gave in this week and bought SH5)

Have a 6990 with 11.4 update/beta drivers and finally solved the black screen issues by turning vertical sync off in the SH5 option screen.

Hmm, unchecking vsync worked for me, Here's what I have selected currently:

* Vsync turned off in game and in CCC
* Catalyst AI to performance
* Crossfire enabled in CCC

Seems pretty laggy at the moment but at least I can see :yeah:

It was the same with SH4.Driver 10.9 makes SH4 run flawless - all drivers above this version till current date gives me some issues in SH4.
ATI drivers allows me to run games without CrossFire support and still let me have an even load on each gpu.
This goes for GTR2, GTL, rFactor and Silent hunter so far.

Which btw. are the only games I play... :oops:

All issues could be solved in all drivers by cranking AA and MSAA up to max settings, but even the 5970 is being brought to it's weeping knees when it comes to Silent Hunter's graphics.
With 10.9 I can run all settings as desired and have no issues at all.

Thanks for the research and testing Jan Kyster!. I decided I wanted to stay with the 11.3 drivers and be able to play SH5. Disabling Catalyst A.I. seemed to do it for me. I think I was incorrect earlier when I said moving the slider to performance disabled A.I. It turns out the correct position to disable is "Quality"

I don't think this disables Crossfire anymore, but don't have any way to tell.

Sorry to bump this thread, but I'm having the same problem. Before I roll back my drivers (don't really want to do that) I'd like to know if anyone has had this problem with a 5870? It seems most people have this problem using 5970s or Crossfire, but I just have the single 5870.
