If you truly support it you'll spend the extra $3 and buy it through Subsim's Amazon link, which also supports Subsim.
Me, I'll "support" the game when they remove the diabolical DRM.
Steve, seeing how you don't have to have your game saves on UBI's server, it's not so bad now. That's one of the reasons I installed it today. And with the mods installed now it's simply mavelous. ;) LOL And I really love the graphics in SH5. IMHO, SHIII was very good but 5 is better.

All of that is very good to hear, but my opinion was never based on how well it works. My opinion is that the the practice is wrong, and I stand firm in my opposition to anything I consider wrong, no matter how pretty they make it.

I'm with ya Steve to this day I have still not given in to SH5... I saw in another post, that said they believed that DRM was here to stay... I have bought 11 P.C. games since SH5 came out 6 of which were big name titles and not one of them had DRM... UBI as far as I can tell is the only one using it (in the games I have bought and am playing) I own SH2,3 & 4 there will be no 5 in my future until DRM is gone... had all of us followed this I strongly believe there would already be no DRM...

Nah... they would have just blamed it on a lack of interest and used it as an excuse to stop work on that paltry pair of pathetic patches they did release.
:) <- convention requires that I add this, but I really don't think it's the least bit funny.

Unfortunately I think you're probably right.

Starcraft was released with a pseudo DRM arrangement (I think). You must create an account on the Battlenet website to register the game after installation is complete. When you launch the game you also log in to the Battlenet site. I'm pretty sure you can still play the game offline but not sure what happens to saved games.
I had to reinstall my operating system (and games) a couple months ago. When I reinstalled and launched Starcraft I was right where I left off in the campaign so this tells me my saved game is on the Battlenet site. I think this is not bad so long as I can still play offline, save my progress, then have the saved game files synchronize themselves the next time I log in.
Too bad Ubisoft can't follow this approach.

Even cheaper now on amazon...

Of course, if people truly wanted to support the game, they would buy it (as many did), no questions asked, at the full original price of $50.

Cool. It's a great opportunity for those on the fence. But I'm not on the fence.

And if they offered a DRM-free version tomorrow for $50 I'd pay it without a second thought, even though my current computer won't even run it, and being the completist that I am I would probably still play the older ones the most.

A game pricing that's hit terminal velocity... that's nice :)
Still has DRM... so sad.. no buy :-)

Actually I charge for any DRM infested piece of refuse that I consent to take home, plus a destruction fee, a detoxification fee and charges to replace any clothing contaminated during the destruction and detoxification processes, plus interest and penalties.
I figure if they pay me about $50 I'll take it.:D But I still wouldn't play it with the DRM.

The constant internet connection has been dropped . You only need to be connected to log in . You dont need to worry about losing connection while playing anymore .
Nah, still haven't bought it... still won't buy it.
Though I'd be happy to put up a $30 bid for a platinum edition sans DRM. :03:
Egosoft finally released a nice Gold Edition of X3 so I can finally play that space sim.
The box actually said "DRM Free" on it, just so I'd buy it.

As I keep saying, for me it was never about how well it worked. It's wrong to restrict a player from playing an offline game whenever he wants, period. That hasn't changed at all.

As usual I find myself agreeing with Steve.
It's now available on Amazon for £6.79!!!
What's worrying is that anyone at UbiSoft could have come up with this crackpot idea (DRM) in the first place.
What's even more worrying is that anybody could have defended it it any way.
What's even more worrying is that anybody could still be defending it.
DRM=no buy as far as I am concerned. At any price.
Regards,
Dredd :arrgh!:
I picked up a cheap copy locally and haven't decided if I'll install/play it yet.
At least it came with a bonus DVD to watch. :yeah:

I, too, didn't buy it due to DRM, plus the fact I felt it was a retrogade step with respect to everything I considered important in a subsim. I was cheated with SH4 ~ and no I don't need people telling me how good the mods are; fact is its release state was a disgrace ~ and I was determined not to be conned again (pardon the pun).
Still haven't bought, nor will I. Voted that way in every poll and meant it.
DRM? Online? Screw that. It's why I've not bought StarCraft 2, either.

yeeehaaaaaa!!
Consuma Powaaaaaaa!!!!
:)
I just paid $3.98 on Amazon (plus $3.99 for shipping.) At that price I figure nobody is making a profit at all. Ubisoft long ago got the message that this was a dog for them.
I've dabbled around with SH3 for a while, enjoyed it with the Mega patches and it got me interested in reading up on WW2 uboat warfare.
The worst outcome I can imagine by buying it at this price is that I'm out of 2 caffee latte's worth of money and that the SH5 community will get bothered with a few questions coming from ignorant me.
The best would be that I turn into a contributor myself. Given this price after the game having been on the market for only around half a year (heck, even SH3 still sells for more) I don't see an alternative to SH5 in my lifetime. Might as well download mods and encourage the creative community.
Also, at this point, let me express a huge bravo, congratulation and thanks to the Grey Wolf creators and everybody associated with it. You are just plain awesome.
oh, and I think Ubi dropping the DRM on SH5 is just a question of time. At a point in the not so far future it won't make any financial sense for them to worry about a game being pirated that doesn't generate any revenue at all.

Greetings; It's been some time since I posted here, guess I was hoping ubi would have dropped the turd polish before x-mas, them's the breaks I guess. It kills me to see V floating about 5$. Not sure if that's a victory or not. While Amazon ratings say less then two stars. What realy kills me is IV is 4 stars, and still selling for 15.99$ :ping:
I guess I feel kinda burnt out from waiting, not sure I want to bother wondering anymore.
Well your conscience can probably rest comfortably if you do cave in now. At this $5 price point, minus whatever piece the retailer is taking, there isn't even enough left to cover production, support (web sites and bandwidth, ticketing, etc) and distribution costs.
Soooo... if it follows that every sale from this point forward is costing them more money than they make, one might even rationalize a purchase now as a blow against UBI.
:yeah:
Or not.

Like the customer rating (1.5 stars). With 75 customers that's significant.

Yeah, that'll be it. Absolutely nothing to do with the basic principles of supply and demand.

Releasing a niche game into a shrinking PC market, while at the same time making it damn near unplayable? Master stroke! I'm guessing everyone who bought it is probably in this thread.

I've just bought it for £6 ($9.50), just awaiting delivery. What can go wrong? Looking forward to making use of Sobers mods among others but doubt my rig will attain the fantastic look of Gunfighter or [501]Otto's pics:DL
PS: Through subsim's Amazon link
