Nimitz asks, "The world wonders where Rockin Robbins is?"
[His last post was 10-04-2010.]
above quote adapted from Wikipeidia's summary of the Battle of Leyete Gulf set forth below:
From 3,000 mi (4,800 km) away in Pearl Harbor, Admiral Nimitz had been monitoring the desperate calls from Taffy 3, and sent Halsey a terse message: "TURKEY TROTS TO WATER GG FROM CINCPAC ACTION COM THIRD FLEET INFO COMINCH CTF SEVENTY-SEVEN X WHERE IS RPT WHERE IS TASK FORCE THIRTY FOUR RR THE WORLD WONDERS." The first four words and the last three were "padding" used to confuse enemy cryptanalysis (the beginning and end of the true message was marked by double consonants). The communications staff on Halsey's flagship correctly deleted the first section of padding but mistakenly retained the last three words in the message finally handed to Halsey. The last three words, probably selected by a communications officer at Nimitz's headquarters, may have been meant as a loose quote from Tennyson's poem on "The Charge of the Light Brigade", suggested by the coincidence that this day, 25 October, was the ninetieth anniversary of the Battle of Balaclava – and was not intended as a commentary on the current crisis off Leyte. Halsey, however, when reading the message, thought that the last words — ‘THE WORLD WONDERS’ — were a biting piece of criticism from Nimitz, threw his cap to the deck and broke into "sobs of rage". Rear Admiral Robert Carney, his Chief of Staff, confronted him, telling Halsey "Stop it! What the hell's the matter with you? Pull yourself together."

He's probably on patrol, ripping the Nips a new one in Tokyo Bay. :rotfl2:
IMGD,
was about to start a thread, too ...
Hoping all is well.

Yea it would be a shame to list him MIA in the Pacific or on eternal patrol:nope:
That guy talked me through so many issues after coming from SHIII when I was so frustrated I was about to implode he took me under his wing (No pun intended.) and taught me to become a real skipper!
Soon I was hooked and tearing up the Pacific all THX to RR.:salute:
I hope he's alright.
Maybe he sank another Essex class :hmmm:
Hope he is alright.
Same here, hope all is well.:hmmm:

Hopefully all is well.

He might have vanaished with the SH5 debacle like others did. I'm guilty of that myself.

I like to be optimistic so, I'm sure he's OK. Still, I said a prayer for him, just in case.:smug:

*'d/i8,xre1jmh.50]z0p1\p[m9hm\90r'jsvw9=gw0;w7o0........stupid experimental squawk box there. Just surfaced for a quick airing out there. Been doing extended submergence trials with some nasty air scrubbing chemicals I can't talk about.
Actually, real life and unemployment has been intruding on my normal lifestyle. Then I had muchas graphics card problems with my EVGA 7900GS and with a replacement EVGA GTS 250 I bought, putting me out of any computing at all for about a month. I don't know about EVGA. Not only did they walk away from their old lifetime warranty but they are enforcing their register in 30 days or forget any warranty clause. Methinks it's time to shop another company next time. They may have lost their mojo.
Then after I fixed my video card problems I had a power failure while my computer was writing to the hard drive. It was complete software rebuild time as my backup was trash too. Fortunately I had a very recent Belarc report (makes duplicating your previous setup a piece of cake!) and an older backup that allowed me to restore just about every setting on the machine.
So now it's time to get SH4 running again and get back in the swim here. Thanks for all the support, guys! I'm happy to say that reports of my demise were premature.:salute:
Ubi's SH5 debacle aside, Subsim is still the greatest place on the Internet and remains unscathed! Thanks Neal.
RR,
good you're back...:yep::yep::yep:
and don't worry, in these times, unemployment is a lifestyle!:doh::doh:

Okay boys, let's carve the turkey!!
Bahh, so nothing serious happened to him ...
;) just joking, I'm glad you are all right and it's only the stupid real life getting in the way!! :woot:
But there have been in the past certain very strange vanishings of members that can only be explained with a tragedy  and that is something very sad, because you learn to really appreciate some guys around here :yep:
I'm thinking about Captain Cox (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/member.php?u=229816)

A power failure during a reformat? That's too bad about your graphics card also.:nope: EVGA is one of the better cards out there too. My current card, as was my previous one, is EVGA. PNY is pretty good and so is XFX, though admittedly, I'm a little nervous yet about switching at this time. Anyway, glad your in one piece.

Now that RR has surfaced, in a manner of speaking, his account of the sinking of a carrier is a classic bit of subsim lore. Funny, too.

Amazing! I was thinking about Captain Cox too. He had just posted a seemingly enthusiastic post about fixing something and vanished from all radar screens. Later it turned out he was over on another simulator group, I forgot which one, modding another game, a flight simulator if I remember right. His posts were just the same great personality they were here, but for another subject.
No, for me diesel submarines will always remain something special. I guess it's an addiction to the smell of human sweat mixed with fear or something. Either that or it's some kind of incurable insanity. I like flying fine, even have some electric radio control planes (see me over at Wattflyer!), I have fun casually playing Gran Tourismo 4 with a good racing wheel, but I don't invest anywhere near as much of myself in those things as World War II submarines, especially American ones, since Annie's grandfather was in the crew of the Kraken. I sure wish he had lived to see Silent Hunter 4!
Now I find out how much I've forgotten in the down time! This could be very humbling....

Ahh so he was indeed OK? That's good to know! Sometimes people dissapear and from what you had seen before you can very well see that they simply moved on, but CC seemed something very different. Guess it wasn't it, in the end ...:)

Oh yeah, I've had some FUN with SH4 and Trigger Maru in all its flavors. And learned more about World War II submarines than I had from all my reading since I was a teenager. Thank you SH4 developers! Thank you Neal, Ducimus, Tater, Aaronblood, Gutted, and several dozen others here at Subsim.
My whole mission here at Subsim has been trying to enable everyone to have the level of fun I've had. Anyone who thinks I'm some kind of tactics genius has it all wrong. I'm just a cheerleader, lifting the pretty girls and shaking those pom-poms.

when I read his tutorial on MoBo and learned to use his program, I felt I was in the presence of a genius. RR, there is no need to explain yourself. The fact that 700 subsimmers visited this thread is an expression of their feelings.
Indeed and it didn't even have his name in the subject just his initials. I check the thread every time there is a new post. Having served on an LA Class and worked out numerous problems on a MoBoard, I have to admit I was impressed by the program. Wish we would have had PCs and your program back then. Would have saved a lot of trees! :salute:
