It's going like that since quite some time now, and there will be more. Many cold-war-era spy satellites get replaced with more modern ones. They have not only reached the end of their technological lifetime, but many have massively exceeded it by 200 and 300 %.
If only it would be used against rogue and non-European states only. But of course assuming that would be naive. If you think you are private these days when using a wire, then you are a fool.
The naivety and innocence of private business as well as companies working for state demands, surprises me time and again.
Sometimes I almost wish there would be a killer asteroid heading for Earth, so that finally we would start using our stunning technological resources for something useful and constructive, for a change. But I think it will take another thousand generations before we finally are ready to leave the stoneage behind. Back then, our ancestors had clubs. Today, we still are fixiated on clubs, but clubs with chips inside and a high-tech-finish with nano-particles.

I hate when the media calls it a "spy satellite". It is a reconnaissance satellite.
How the hell can a satellite spy? They can either perform reconnaissance or surveillance, but not spy. :nope:

spy (noun)
A person who secretly watches and examines the actions of other individuals or organizations and gathers information on them (usually to gain an advantage)
I would say it fits the definition.

It's the kind of mistery that has been going on for sixty years. The early ones had salt plugs to allow the deap to have them, if we didn't.
