View Full Version : Reinstalling SHIV and have a mod question...
Just had a HDD crash and unable to save the "save game" file for SHIV, so I'll be reinstalling it on my shiny new Seagate drive.
I've always played vanilla SHIV but I've been interested in the mods.
Question one: What, in your opinion, is the best mod to use? (I don't want to download a bunch of different ones).
Question two: I haven't installed SHIV yet. Should I download the mods (and I think there's a mod-installer, too), install and patch the sim and then install the mods?
Sorry...I know I should do some research, but I have very little time between work and family and getting my PC back up and running again.
Thanks!

Question 2: Install and patch the sim, make sure SHIV is squared away first. Then install the JSGME (mod organizer) to your SHIV folder. JSGME should create a file named "MODS" in the SHIV folder, if it doesn't, just create a new file yourself and name it "MODS". This folder is where you'll place all installed mods unless their "read me" files say otherwise.
Question 1: I'm currently playing TMO 2.0 w/RSRDC. I've already played RFB 2.0 and I love them both. It's hard for me to choose a favorite yet and I'm not sure I'll ever be able to since both Mods are great in their own unique way.
A lot of the members here prefer TMO because they feel it's more of a challenge, especially the TMO DDs. I found RFB to be equally challenging but in different ways. For instance, in RFB, the sub was much slower and more cumbersome to maneuver, especially when trying to evade DDs while submerged. On the surface (say, evading shore guns or planes), if you turn your boat while running at flank speed, you experience a significant loss of power/speed with each turn. In TMO, the boat seems to respond quicker on the surface and submerged. So, although the DDs are more ravenous in TMO, your boat is easier to maneuver in evading them.
But, now I'm comparing apples to oranges. You'll have to make that preference call yourself. Both mods are harder than stock but, in different ways. Good luck.:salute:
Thank you, sir. I'll check out both of those mods and decide between the two.
Thanks for your quick reply!

TMO and RFB are both great mods, you really can't go wrong with either of them. RSRD is also a great mod, it will make sure that the enemy is where they should be at the correct time. It also adds some ships to the game and i'm sure it took tons of work to create this mod.
The downside to RSRD is if you know your history then you know alot more than a real sub captain would. You can do a little reading and completely eliminate alot of the unknowns that a real captain would face.
