View Full Version : Make Type XIV "Milk Cow" Playable
Hi
I'd just like to ask for some instructions on how to make this "Milk Cow" playble using the one in GWX3. Since I cant find any other instructions.
If anyone could provide some instructions on just how to make it basically playable, I would be very grateful.
I'm simply curious as to why you'd want to play it, since it has no weaponry.
I'd like to play it becasue I'd like to be able to use the Mission Editor to design missions where it could simulate refuels and resupplies to other U-Boats. I'd also just like to sail it in the dynamic campaign and see how hard it is to survive the open seas without torpedoes, like the real crews did during the war.

It wouldn't be a Type XIV, but the two Type IX-D that were made were converted to cargo types with no torpedoes. It should be easy to modify the IX-D2's file to turn it into one of them.
Thanks for the the suggestion Arael.
But does anyone know if there is anyway I could use the model in GWX3 because it is a brilliant model and it would be the best one to use for the missions I've designed for the Mission Editor involving resupplying other U-Boats.

I figured it might have something to do with that. There's nothing in the game itself that would make me want to skipper it. I bet that thing dives like a ruptured whale, too. You'd certainly find it a challenge to survive in one of them.

Most whales sink when dead anyways. Rupturing one would just make it sink faster.

Thats why I'd like to make it playable because it would provide the player a unique challenge to survive without torpedoes while still reaching supply zones and re-fuel locations.
So if anyone would like to help me make it playble then I would like that opportunity to play a mission such as this.

Thought they floated for a while, sharks feed on them and such.
Betcha they'd suck to run into. I've ran into a sea cow (Manatee, and while scuba diving, not in boat), and that was interesting. Running into a floating dead whale would be..... different.

If you want a survival challange without fighting, try being a weather boat in late 1943. Stay in your patrol square and on the suface as much as possible, you need to take those meterological measurements since the Luftwaffe and OKM are depending on them.
Take a Type VII, any flavour and sail to an area south of Greenland or north of Bermuda sending status reports three or four times per day for a month. If you last that long... Ignore the BdU replies telling you to "Be More Aggressive", you're doing a necessary and dangerous job.
A quick review of Blair or Rohwer reveals a number of boats were destroyed on weather reporting stations. U-Boat captain's hated weather reporting duties and using GWX (cannot speak for stock or the other mega-mods) it's easy to see why.
I'd like to also make it it playable because I've seen the alpha test on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H276z6ZHUVUand and I quite like the look of it and would like to make it playable in the simulator which it was originally used for which was SH3 with GWX3.
It would be realy nice for someone to provide me with some instructions on how to make it basically playable because the thread for a tutorial on adding playable ships: http://174.123.69.202/~subsimc/radioroom/showthread.php?t=134575
Doesnt display instructions anymore and I cant find any anywhere else.
So all I'm asking is for the basic instructions which I would appreciate massively.
