Been craving some more World War 2 strategy as of late. Hearts of Iron III is no longer doing it for me. I am looking for some free games that deal with a larger scope war wise. Do they exist?

Larger scope? What do you mean by that?

I'd have suggested Company of Heroes: Online. But that is a pretty small-scale, micro focused game (plus, its whimsical atmosphere might not fly with the crowd here).

I designed WW2 The Big One. New players always welcome.

Free version available. Difference to commercial CD version is minimal, most important one is: resolution locked to 800 and 1024. For higher res you need to pay.

Classic, proven gameplay. I use the modern battles version of it.

I just meant games of the same size or a bit smaller.

Don't think you're going to find a free WWII grand strategy game, there are few enough of those games to begin with.

What's wrong with turn based games?

Wow, thanks for the info on the free winSPWW2 game! I played this game about 15 years ago and it was my favorite dos game. I had no idea it has been updated with many improvements and now runs in windows. All this and being free makes this the best Xmas gift for me this year. Thanks again.

Best regards.

Making History: The Calm & The Storm. It's not "free" per se, but you can pirate it, not that I recommend nor endorse such a thing.
