That's what happens when you have Fokkers in Messerschmitts...

I was referencing an old joke...

During WWII, a Dutch fighter pilot went to talk to some schoolchildren. He had them all riveted with his stories of the Battle of Britain, until he mentioned one particular fight. "And den, coming up on my tail der vas dis Fokker I hadn't seen..."

One of the little boys giggled. The teacher frowned at the little boy and interrupted. "I think I should explain here, because we clearly have a very ignorant class of silly little boys, that the Fokker company are a well known German plane manufacturer, and there's nothing whatsoever funny about their name."

The pilot turned to the teacher. "Dis is very true. But dat Fokker -- dat Fokker I vas saying vas coming up on my tail out of de sun and starting to strafe me? Dat Fokker vas a Messerschmitt!"

Fokker is Dutch, but good story anyway.

I think Bader did something similar on a Michael Parkinson interview.

"Ah yes, Michael (Parkinson)," Bader replied, "But these ****es were Messerschmitts..."

Only in Oleg's world in Il2.;)

@TLAM Strike
Nice story. I almost imagined something like that, but I wasn't sure, so the smartass in me gained the upper hand.:D

I dont know, after that one campaign, I began to love the ****e wulf. Nice firepower, Good handeling (if you do it right) Though in Olegs world, they kinda have no pilot protection.

Doubt any modern aircraft could return with that amount of damage...

The A-10 probably would, but that is about it.

The McDonnell Douglas corporation would disagree...

This one flew for the IAF, got clipped by a A-4 Skyhawk, IIRC the Skyhawk pilot bailed out while Eagle driver brought his plane home...

One very skilled pilot, or did the computers keep her from spinning like a wobbly drill bit?

I believe it when I see it. The bottom left picture is definitely a fake.;)

I originally heard this story from an IAF officer a few years ago. Didn't really believe it back then, but I suppose it could have happened.

The pictures/video might have been edited (Think those are from a documentary), since the chances of them actually capturing all that when it happened are pretty slim.

That pic probably is a mock up from a documentary (hence the History channel H in the corner) but the bottom right photo isn't fake.

I know that this story has been over the net for years and documentaries have been made about it, but I still doubt it somehow. It doesn't seem possible and the story was first told in the time of the cold war (IIRC) so It could be just a taxiing accident with some "Here Russki/Syrian etc, look what our fighters can do" story attached to it.
I simply have trouble to believe that that thing could land safely with that sort of damage.

who said *safely*?
:D

he brought her down wayyyyy too fast, and probably funked up the brakes when trying to stop before running off the tarmac into the desert ^^

Any landing you walk away from is a "safe" landing.
