View Full Version : i44 currently the best mp ww2 tanksim?
Just a heads up for all you tankers the i44 mod has been released for ArmA 2 and in our opinion is currently the best multiplayer world war 2 tank sim available, for several reasons.
ArmA2 has outstanding multiplayer code, we have hosted 8 people on a a non dedicated 8mbit home broadband connection.
i44 tanks are now slow, heavy beasts with some really great models.
i44 tanks have working optics, so you gun like they did in the day.
i44 has the best Panther sound ever heard in a sim!
i44 has models for the panzer 2,4 (d,g,g skirted) Tiger, King Tiger and 4 version's of stug.
i44 Allied units have the Shermans (various models) and Firefly
i44 has all the support vehicles that need to be used to keep you're panzer in working order.
Arma2 has massive 225 sqkm maps, with many environments.
i44 comes with a D-Day landing map, with correct period setting.
Arma2 supports 60 man MP missions on a dedicated server.
ArmA2 has built in voice chat at many levels, so the correct comms can be used.
Give it a try, we all love it, we hope you guys do.

looks awesome i think i must give it a go... gotta buy arma2 first tho
I havent played shooters in a long long time, how does the aiming system work? crosshair in mid screen or the weapon sights like in real life
Given tanks have always been the weakest link of OFP/Arma, I can with quite a great confident say 'no' to the question without even trying it. :hmmm:
i44 tanks are now slow, heavy beasts with some really great models.
The first mod team to achieve this and please give us more credit than trying to pass off the cardboard tanks of ofp/arma as anywhere near good enough.
These tanks are very good indeed, if you have Arma2 what have you got to loose :)

A real aiming reticle for all panzers and tanks.
Here I have it set to 800 meters.

I was merely answering your question. Granted, I haven't tried I44, but unless VERY big changes have been made to the tanks, then my answer stands. Of course, everyone has their own opinion on what makes a good simulator, so. ;)
Tho, the tanks do look very nice. :yeah:

I do not have ArmA2, I only know the tanks in Flashpoint and ArmA(1), but back then there was no functional realism in any of them. So I wonder whether this WWII mod is only cosmetic, or also functional:
- how are weapon physics, and ballistic behaviour of projectiles?
- how is interaction between kinetic energy, armour type, and impact angle?
- how is vehicle movement behaviour?
I would say these are three of the most important factors that decide tank simulations.
I personally would also add formation AI and tactical formation interaction - tanks are team players.
Don't want to piss anyone, and certainly not the modders. It's always nice to see fans investing voluntary work into their hobby. I just think these questions belong to a complete description of such a mod.
The beige-olive-redbrown skin reminds me of the "Assault"-skins for SBP. Same authors, by chance?
Murkz,
Thanks for the heads up!

I agree to an extent, but I've always thought that the aircraft in OFP/ARMA got even less attention. The flight models are horrible and weapon employment has always been a joke.

Yeh, that's true also. :yep:

First one, the weapons have the correct velocity and gravity is modelled.
Second, no clue, do you know how this works in Steel Beasts?
Third, vehicle movement is very good, tanks are slow to turn and very near if not the same as their re-life counterpart.
Don't shoot the messenger, if you guys have questions try it out, then you will know for yourself :)
As for mp ww2 tanking you have one other choice which is ww2online, that is pay to play, TvT is unusable in mp.

Yes it is a very good mod. There also is the 31st Normandy mod plus the best one yet coming soon called Liberation44 dealing with the eastern front.
There 's also Red Orchestra which is MP although not really a tanksim.
Lovely models and nice landscapes! Well done Guys!Kudos Murkz!
I agree with Murkz always give modders a chance before judging.Just because the original game sucks doesn't mean that modders can't improve it and make it good. It's easy to disparage the work of others but courageous to mod and create something new! Look at what ZeeWolf made with Tvst.
I don't have Arma II and MP does not turn me on but those lovely models really make me regret both:cry:
Cheers and good luck Murkz!
Yes good call frinik, I had forgotten about RO and version 2 of RO looks so good inside the tank :)
This looked like a very good reason to dust off my copy of ARMA 2 but then I saw the instructions for the Steam version and it looks beyond me :hmmm:
I44 is really really fun, but need some servers to play. if someone could post some ones, it could be nice ;)

there is a new Italian I44 Warfare mission 1.1 (BE Warfare clone) running using Operation Arrowhead, simply filter "Invasion" using the server browser.
...you have to delete or move "DAC_Sound.pbo" out of the Invasion44 addon folder, because this file isnt signed, and the server have signature check enabled !
geez im trolling...lol...naaaaah
I have arma II and are looking into these mods, but are slightly confused. Are the ww2 mods compatible??
Can someone who play the game post the ww2 mods (links) and please tell me if there are conflics between the different mods...

The mod works with 1.08 patch so you don't need the beta
the nect release 2.5 @I44 wil be compatible with arrowhead too
awsome...struggeling abit with the shortcut creation...getting the "this object is deletet bla bla" i know how to fix it just not sure how to do it ,lol.....but getyting assistance today by a m8 :) so soon i roam the i44 battlefields wooooot
got it working its aaaaawsooome.....have a few probs with controls etc...but having loads of fun :)
Im the owner of "only ww2 relatet"
TvsT
SF
And now arma2 i44
And after an evening of fun with i44 i give a noobs perspective on i44 compared to the others.
TvsT is the "ultimate" sim, but as stock game everything outside the tanks are a big disapointment. AI especialy infantry feels, well like moving trees. MP was fun the first two weeks, then loads of people found out how to modify some game files creating super tanks.
I know zee have been working on a rewamp of the game, but i dont have that so cant say anything about it.
Steelfury brought emersion to the battlefield, its a great game and you got the feeling that you belonged to the battle and there is 3d crew in the tanks, and that is something i like. Only real downside is no MP, SF would have rocked as a MP game.
i44. The main downer for me. free movement indside tank, but werry "station static viuws" The controls are abit wierd, but when you get used to it its not to bad.
you have 30% less sim feeling, but you have 100% more battlefield envirement, you have infantry that follow you and protect you, and you can have some insane battles online with so many units that you actualy can run out of ammo. I was invitet to a game last night where 3 stug G`s and around 50 infantry should ambush a attack force out side a town.
It was coop and i was in heawy fight for 3 hours, they just kept comming
I44 is not T vs T simulation vice
I44 is not SF from the pure tank perspective
I44 is somewhere in the middle, that even with the limitations can be awsome fun. If you have arma II you should get it to i44 state, i can se many many hours of fun for me with that thing...

That looks really awesome.
I'm a long time World War Two Online player but the tank combat in that has declined major over the years. I've also played Red Orchestra and Darkest Hour mod since they've been out.
I need to give this a try.

will this work with the f2p version?
will this work with the f2p version?
Free to play version of arma doesn't have mod support, so that'd be no.

nice graphics, not very indepth though. obviously not the best sim, although it's ok for quick arcade, semi realistic game.

...dont forget that the arma series are more or less a infrantry combat simulator, but having a wide range of different vehicles you`re able to pilot. For a "sim-game" of its priceclass you cant expect having all the simulation dept as like in a "tank only sim".
On the other hand, regarding tactics and virtual battlefield, Bohemi Interactive deliver also VBS-2 a proffessional combat simulator which is more or less running on the same engine and partly shared content but much more advanced and made for real troops... the US Marine Corps is training with it for example.
regarding I44, the modding possibilitys within arma are endless, some vanilla vehicles have a 3D interrior with crew, so it is doable. The damage and ballistic`s modell got modified, fitting much better into it now.
My favors are the Panther and Tiger tanks as they have the best engine sounds at current. Its a shame that allied tanks feature a bad, much to quiet unrealistic engine sound, lets hope they take a hand on it.
If you want to have a more realistic modern version try the ACE mod, for more real missiles and its systems try Mando Missiles mod.

Have you thought about steal beasts? Or perhaps Steal Fury if you want WWII, or WWIIOL if you want tanking online?
You also have Steel Armour Blaze of War by Graviteamfor a combined RTS/SIM but only SP, Iron Front Liberation 1944 both SP and MP based on the Arma2 engine and Combined Arms DLC which is posted on this forum...
