I always respected how the Patriot Guard Riders combated the Westboro idiots. They block them out:

It's about time people stood up to those jackasses. :stare:

The bozos were out this way claiming the PG&E pipeline blast was God's punishment, blah, blah, blah....
It's as if they are another species, or is there some common gene missing?

"The Phelps group, from Topeka, Kan., protests troops' funerals around the country, saying their deaths are God's judgment on America for "condoning homosexuality.""
thats crazy. I can see on one hand raising awareness for anti war causes (although even that in this situation may be in bad taste). But that? wow. Crazy.
And is it even worth it to go on a witch hunt for gays? I mean really?

The sad thing is that they don't stop to question their own sanity. :yep:

Somebody needs to convince these guys that they need to go to Afghanistan and/or Iran to "spread the word." That'll keep'em busy:hmmm:.

I don't think they hate the troops, just blame gay tolerance for their demise.

Hey maybe they'll immigrate. It could be a win win win situation for all concerned.

Care to revise your statement?
Unfortunately we had our own such funeral back in September. some of you recall I'm sure. and these bastards showed up.
Fortunately... thanks to the patriot guard riders, they went largely unseen.
Here's a possibly good use of facebook/twitter and all these other newfangled social media thingies: set up a community alerting system about military funerals where these scumbags are likely to appear. Then get together a civil blocking force on the day - you'd be doing your community a hell of a lot of good service, and thanking the troops for ultimate sacrifices. Hopefully something like that already exists though!

Have any of these people been shot, stabbed or seriously beaten? I would be surprised if the answer is no.

Outright attacking them would just further their agenda, you know martyrdom and all that bull.
Doesn't make them any less deserving of a good beating though.

Has anyone thought of just giving Fred a big hug and a kiss?
Then again he may well like that as there are long running allegations that like many of the more vocal "anti-gay" crowd Fred Phelps is partial to a bit of man on man action himself

We always hate in others what we hate in ourselves. :03:
Now that you mention it i'm surprised that gay groups haven't started a counter demonstration campaign. Not at servicemens funerals but right outside their church.

WBC's message is too ridiculous to protest, I guess.
On the other hand...

Not sure if this next one is related, but it's funny:

Plenty of counter-protest, but WBC gets most of the attention.

What would be awesome is if they could team up with the Patriot Riders to put even more bodies in the line that screens out the loonies. :yep:

I think it would be great to include two more ranks to that; one for driving the group a few blocks away from the funeral services, and another one to join in at that point to run the buggers all the way out of town. :yep:

Yeah, I don't think that's likely to happen. :DL
But imagine a gay protest with all it's festive trappings right outside their church front door. It might keep those nuts at home and on the defensive instead of giving them the time to show up at military funerals.
Eh I guess if it were practical it probably would have been tried already.

Concerning this so-called church...
Me thinks they doth protest too much. :yep:
Someone's having problems with guilt. :smug:
Haha, I was right about social media being a great channel to let people know about this. One of my friends relayed this message this on facebook today:
"The Anatomy of Hate" plays at the FLC library tonight. The Westboro Baptist Church (the godhatesfags.com fags) is coming all the way from Kansas to protest it. So who wants to go ridicule the stupidest people in America tonight and then catch a free movie?
Now this is the attitude I wanna see

Sorry to dig this one up from the grave, but I loved this:
Shortly after protesting the funeral of Army Sgt. Jason James McCluskey in Oklahoma, members of the Westboro Baptist Church headed back to their minivan, only to discover that its front and rear passenger-side tires had been slashed. To make matters worse, when they drove into town they were unable to find anyone who would repair it.

No. As much as I disagree with these jerks (and I do), committing illegal acts is not the appropriate response. :nope:
The spirit of our nation's belief in the concept of freedom of speech is tested in how we treat people who we vehemently disagree with.
I hate what these people are saying, but I would hate it more if their rights were infringed. Then everyone loses.

I disagree. I value the right to have an undisturbed funeral higher than their right to protest. The US courts came also to this conclusion by making a no-protest zone in the proximity of the graveyard for the time a funeral - I don't know if it only goes for a military funeral though.
I would even go a step more far and say I value the right of an undisturbed funeral more than their right not to have their heads kicked in!
