A couple of questions

I read a book some years ago, about a british sub during ww2, that before they could fire a torpedo they had to slow down to just a few knots. Would this had be the same with the German/US subs?

The phrase "Deeper Dammit", I cannot belive any self respecting German during the forties would have used such a phrase. I am I barking up the wrong tree?

The majority of torpedo attacks take place while submerged, where a WWII sub is only capable of a few knots anyway. If it was a surface attack they would be moving slowly at night, minimizing noise, wake and bow wave which might give them away. No need to slow down when you normally attack at about 5 mph anyway.
