Greetings
I've just ended a 90 minuite session trying to get my game to start. It was fine last night, well into my fourth patrol, but today has been a disaster.
Attempt No 1.
Started using SH3Cdr desktop icon. Sequence was as follows:
Check disc.
GWX3 loading screen.
Main menu.
Selected saved Career. Selected saved game (last in series)
Game starts loading to point where screen goes black (after "Not so long ago") and one expects the game to start.
Get error message to say SH3 has encounted a problem and has to close.
Details of message (for what it's worth);
AppName SH3.exe Ver 1,4,0,1
Mod name kernel.dll Mod version 0.0.0.0 Offset000187c5
Attempt No2
Rolled back SH3 Cdr
As above but starting with GWX3 desktop icon.
Result as above.
Attempt No3
Started with SH3 icon
Result as above.
Attempt No4.
Started from CD
Selected play from menu.
As before
All the above were attempts at loading the last saved game.
I then uninstalled SH3 Commander and tried again using both the GWX3 and SH3 desktop icons and CD with the same results.
Next I tried to load the penultimate saved game using the GWX3 and SH3 icons and the CD but got the error message each time.
The problem seems to be related to the SH3.exe file. See the error message above.
I hope that some one can help but I think I've lost everything.
But if the answer is to uninstall everything and start again I don't think I can face that. This is my forth or fifth career since I started playing mid year and every one has ended with a crashed game.

I think you have the dreaded bad save bug. I would start SH3 like normal but select your 2nd to last save point and hope for the best. I know it sucks to lose that time ingame.
Sometimes you have to go back 2 or 3 saves before it will load, sometimes only 1, but it sure beats doing a reinstall.

It is advised then when installing Suoer mods like GWX or SH3 Commander, one must install it over a clean game, and commence it with a new profile.
Or else the coding in the previous files saved prior to installing super Mods, would conflict with the new codings after installing the super mod, in your case would be the SH3 Commander.

The Kernel32.dll file handles memory management, input/output operations, and interrupts. When you start Windows, Kernel32.dll is loaded into a protected memory space so that other programs do not take over that memory space.
If loading previous game saves doesn't work then all you can do is reinstall the game I'm afraid.

Thanks every one for the replies.
I think I will take the philosophical view and deem this to be the end of my current career and drink a schnaps(?) to his memory.

Have you checked your 'virtual memory':hmmm:
I ask cause I was having the same problem and when I increased the VM it went away:06:
I'd not long ago done a complete rebuild and never reset it again;)

Well after several reinstall and patches I've got GWX3 back on, BUT!!!
After each part installation; basic SH3, SH3 patched to 1.4b I checked to see if I could get into the game. In each case I got to the career menu screen. So far so good.
Then I installed GWX3 which on the third attempt (after un- and re- installs and deletions) went on without any difficulties. However when I tried to get into the game it stalled at the point where the Grey Wolves' screen loading bar got to 100%. After that nothing.
Note, I have not installed SH3 Commander or any mods, other than those mods installed by GWX3.
It's a long battle.
Any clues please?
Thanks for the help already recieved. Nikbear, I took the tip and increased my virtual memory, from 2024 to 3047mbs.

Did you give it a couple of minutes to start....the game needs that time on the first bootup?
Now if your answer is yes, click on my sig, that will take you to the GWX website where there are comprehensive installation instructions.
FOLLOW THEM TO THE LETTER...DO NOT SKIP ANY MINOR DETAIL AND THAT INCLUDES THE DELETION OF THE SH3 FOLDER IN C\MYDOCS AS WELL AS THE REGISTRY CLEANUP.
THE MOD IS DOING EVERYTHING ASKED OF IT...THERE ARE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF INSTALLATIONS WORLDWIDE...BELIEVE ME, YOU ARE MISSING OUT SOMETHING SOMEWHERE...THE PROBLEM IS AT YOUR END.
The above capitals are not meant to be perceived as shouting or having a pop at you, simply to highlight the probable position as I see it.

Hi jimbuna,
Got things running at last but don't know what I did to cure the problem. However when I loaded SH3 Commander it all went back to the original fault as quoted in my first post. I uninstalled SH3 Cdr and it's working again. I'm leaving well enough alone.
I would like to add a few mods but when I tried the Newbies hints and things (the second 'sticky') topic in this forum I found that all the addresses with \phpBB in them came up with an error. You might want to confirm this.
Presently at sea on my first patrol.
PS Thanks for the heads up on the reg cleaner D/Ld the trial version of RegVac which opened my eyes (2012 errors). Have to seriously consider buying it.
Thanks again.
Tally ho!

Have you downloaded the GWX3 CFG file for Commander?

Qhe?
Prooves yet again that I'm an idiot.
Nice to have it confirmed, I was beginning to think for a dreadful moment that I'd started to grow a brain!!

No your not an idiot you are simply climbing the long learning curve we all did at some time or other....some find it a little easier than others but that doesn't mean much because you'll get to the top eventually.
My advice would be to use SH3 Commander, it is a fantastic compliment to GWX and add the CFG file:
