The Scoop : Its very early in the war , 1939 . Type VIIb , with tons of fuel , 3/4 tank . Got sent to BF16 from Willy .

First on my trip around to BF16 , sunk 3 smaller ships with deck gun and a torpedo . ( my first 100% manual targeting shot by the way ) . So anyway when I arriveded , I got down to business right away . I musta got there at the rite time . I stay in my area for most of my patrols . So after 4 days and 4 more ships , I'm outa torpedoes ( still working on my manual targeting skills ) except for the 2 externals . One of my personal rules is that if the ocean is too rough for deck/flack gun crews then its to rough to transfer the external torpedoes also . At this current time the ocean is at 15m/s .

I know what I'm going to do . I'm going to hang around a few days to see if the ocean settles down a bit . If not return home .

My opinion question is : Would you call it a day and return to Willy with 3/4 ( 75% ) tank of fuel and 2 torpedoes ( externals ) or would you hang out and see if the ocean smoothed out a bit ?

I play with a few personal rules ( that I picked up from Sailor Steve ) but I'm always curious as to other players tactics . thanx :cool:

I'd call it a day - and as a historical note the only eels used in the external stores were T1's as they did not require as much maintenance - the others required something or other every 2-3 days.

I'd head home, and if the sea-state calms load your externals and find something to practice on on the way home.

I would ride home, if it was not that I was well away from port,and had eels left then maybe I would hold out for a while to, :yep:

Might as well head back and if the weather calms you may be lucky and come across some prey during your return.

First, congrats on using manual targeting so early. It's a big step and a skill I am still struggling to master.

If you are playing stock, I would keep patrolling the area another month and see if the weather clears, then head home if it does not (west of Ireland.... then between Hebrides and Scotland if you get a chance to move your torps, otherwise over the top). BF14 16 17 are such a great buffet for tankers that it's a shame to leave early.

If you are in GWX, I would sail for the Corrientes, restock there. Then either enjoy "west of Gibraltar" or go back to "Tanker Alley" or both.

For realism (and I am not an expert on this), I flip coins or roll dice. I set the odds at about 70% chance that I am ordered home. If I get the good dice, the boys are looking at 80-90 day breaks from the vices of Wil'haven.

On your way home the weather is likely to change. Recover the two then. If you are still closer to enemy waters than home, hunt another target.

Your weather change might not come for a while. Head home, celebrate, look for opportunity.
