The US president will make a historic trip to the Taj Mahal along with his family. His visit is historic in terms of logistics which is the largest ever for a visiting US president
40 aircraft !! :o
What I dont see in this story is... why?
http://indiatoday.intoday.in/site/Story/117956/LATEST%20HEADLINES/taj-trip-included-in-barack-obamas-itinerary.html
Can he afford to leave the country, when the situation is that there is...:hmmm:
"What, me? Wasn't MY fault Tuesday, I was all the way in freakin' INDIA!"

"There will be six armoured cars, including the Barack Mobile, a Cadillac."
The Barack mobile really thats what they're going to call it. :har:
I think hes been tipped off about a bloody good golf course over there in India. :hmmm:

Because India cant guarantee the safety for his visit in anyway.
He could be attacked by a company of terrorist with heavy weapons and massive bombs.

Well, I'm sure ol' "mission accomplished" would have hitch-hiked his way there and John Wayne toughed it out. :haha: But seriously, I don't think he is in control of the security arrangements.

People have little understanding of the logistics involved in the movement of the President. It is not like these aircraft as used solely to carry the POTUS' luggage.
I would say that at least 10 of those aircraft are just for WHCA to handle the coms.
Depending on the threat, 40 might be a little low. :yep:

Terrorist aren't going to harm their secret weapon he's done more damage than they have, I say let him go, and not let him back in the country unless he's got 3 forms of I.D. Birth Certificate first and formost.:rotfl2:If terrorist kill him over there it would save some poor schlub jail time over here. Gee hope Bite Me goes with him. Yea Pelosi too.

He could always buy a couple of these from us if he's feeling at bit insecure in his "Obama-mobile"

What I have an understanding of is that Mr. Obama and his family are off on the largest mobilization of security forces for a presidential visit ever.
At a time of record deficits and financial hardships for many the family goes off on a record setting romp in India.
But what I dont understand is why?
Yup the logistics are a bitch and very very expensive but what is the freaking point of this trip? Why does it have to be so large? One has to wonder if he plans to come back. :haha:
Try to spin this as you feel but it looks bad from any angle.

India is hoped to come the main ally of the West in Asia, counter balance to all directions. I remain little sceptic of its true value outside economic ties. Strategic partnership is a good concept but India has structural problems of vast scale that it needs to address to live to its potential. These are mostly culturally rooted issues that hinder the development of the country.

When your Secretary of State is one of your major political rivals, you probably do the heavy lifting yourself. Besides, isn't this an official State Visit? You can't really send the SecState on one of those.
The media is quiet about the matter, but a bunch of you guys are up in arms. If it were the previous president, this would have been reversed, with the media up in arms and a bunch of you guys saying that India is a critical economic parnter and supporter in the War on Terror, and that terrorist action in India warranted additional security.
It's all politics.
I remember seeing what I can only presume was Air Force One heading over to Europe once. The reasoning behind this? Well, it was a BIG air convoy, two AWACs, three standard jetliners and one jumbo as well as about 8-12 fighters. I wondered what the hell was going on, and then later that day Dubya appears at a meeting somewhere in Europe, I think it was a G8 summit or the like. Quite the sight it was, obviously it was too far away for me to be sure that it was AF1, but it's not particularly usual that we get such formations over our way, the odd Herky bird yes, but not an air convoy. Come to think of it though, they probably routed this way so that they could put up a couple of tankers from Mildenhall.
So yeah, it's quite the logistical feat to transport one guy. Arguably one of the most important people in half the globe but yes, one bloke.
What is he doing there? Perhaps outsourcing Congress to New Delhi before the election results come in. :hmmm:

Well no if you want to build up strong friendship and trust, you have to show you are serious. If US intends to be a global player then courting India is in your interests. India has historically had strong ties to Russia so real work is needed to get closer with it. Indias size and strategic location make it potentially a very valuable ally to have.

They're not leaving anything to chance, that's for sure.
Perhaps they think the ISI will invade India. :haha:
Although to be fair, after the carnage of Mumbai back in 2008 I can understand the security, although I think bringing the fleet in is a bit OTT, after all, what can a CVBG do that a couple of missile boats couldn't?

Isn't it sad that the pentagon has to respond to the crazy stories that do the rounds on US talk radio after originating from an unamed source in a local council in a part of india and then getting reposted by drudge.

SEOUL — President Obama’s hopes of emerging from his Asia trip with the twin victories of a free trade agreement with South Korea and a unified approach to spurring global economic growth ran into resistance on all fronts yesterday, putting Obama at odds with his key allies and largest trading partners.

Silly and vindictive to point out that el heffe is taking the "largest trip in US presidents history" taken at a time of financial turmoil and record deficit spending?
I dont give a rats behind if the 'claims are inflated' I dont care if it only cost 1 million a day (Only .... sheese).
He dident need to take a huge entourage with him including all of his family including kids, book entire hotels and so on.
Insensative at best.
Espically now that we learn that it was more or less pointless? Hell the asians are laughing at him now.
Hope he enjoyed the vacation I paid for.

So when the details of the cause of your outrage fall apart as nonsense you still remain fully outraged.
Did you get a little bit more outraged when the Pentagon called the claims you repeated comical?
I think people can legitimately argue about the necessity of a large trip like this (vs "required" trips to summits, etc), but given the existence of the trip, the cost is the cost.
This is not at all the same as the PR issues surrounding First Family vacations, and possible excess there. These are proper State visits, and "over the top" is how the US Pres travels, not coach.
There is always partisan bias on stuff like this. Look at W and golf. He took flak for playing, then stopped completely. He played far fewer games that BO has already, in fact, by 2012, literally an order of magnitude fewer than BO (maybe has hit that milestone already). Anyone on the left that attacked W for golf should similarly attack BO, or they are hypocrites. I don't attack BO's golf for what it is, just as I'd have thought W playing was fine. I don think that BO should be condemned by anyone that condemned W and forced him to quit playing. No double standards.
In short, state trips are state trips, I have no issues. I'm not gonna complain about vacations, either, but it would be interesting to compare the "staycations" of Presidents that have a "ranch" or beach house with the cost of a "real" vacation. I think given the economy, whichever is cheaper for the taxpayer is more appropriate (and no "entourage" (friends, etc) past the usual press corps should be the standard for all government travel (congress critters, too).).
