View Full Version : Constant connection still required?

I've been very busy the past several months and haven't been paying attention to news on Subsim. Just trying now to get up to speed.
Is the constant connection DRM still a requirement or has it been patched out yet?
Earlier this year when I was looking at SH5, all DRM issues aside, as a game it seemed very unfinished and lacking the refinement of SH3 with mods. But after reading about the new mods that have been coming out for SH5, it looks like it might be worth trying, but only if the constant connection stuff is gone. I am still traveling a lot and there's no sense buying a game I can only play when I'm home.
Not trying to start a big olde flame war, but just trying to find out the current state of things.
UBI DRM Haters: Please refrain from using this thread as an opportunity to beat the dead horse again. I'm with you in spirit, but there's no need for more drama at this stage. We made our point when SH5 was released and through our vote of 'No-Buy'.
UBI DRM Apologists: No need to defend the DRM or UBI. This isn't an attack, and if there are holdouts like me still around, you aren't going to change our minds at this point. (We're a stubborn old lot!)
Thanks in advance for a straight answer and update on the status of all this.

It's still unfinished in some ways, but what is there is very playable, and many people enjoy it.
As for DRM, just keep an eye on my sig. You'll know the day it's gone. :sunny:

Thanks for the update. I guess I'm still out.
I need to find a new game to take on the road! I love Sh3, but I need a break and wanted to try something different.
Sounds like marriage after six years...:hmmm:

Maybe someday UBI will come out with such a hot online game they'll need all their server space and, drop drm req for SH5. :DL

As a wise Air Force general once told me, "There is no horse so dead that you cannot beat it some more." :-?

Hey guys,
I'm still enjoying SH4 with all the mods I could find on this forum. Before buying SH5 I'd like to know how the internet connection interact with the game.
Does it constantly load data like an online game or it only need to confirm authenticity once in a while?
I'm asking this because my Time Warner Cable Roadrunner connection and/or my router's ability to deal with Wifi interference is as thick as farmyard sh...
In any case I won't be able to play it if it demands bandwith like a first person shooter. Thanks for the help
Ok, found my answer right there in "Constant connection, well..." thread.

It's not so bad for me, but I have one of the faster connections on the forum. Don't know how it is for others.

thats because you dont need to be connected all the time you are
playing just when you start up the game :D
George Orwell was right..... but it's not only the government that feels it has to keep an eye on you. :yep:..... UBItoo.

The constant connection has been dropped . You only need to be connected to logon .

That's still more than it should be. They won't get my money until it's officially gone for good.

Whats the difference? You still net 2 be online to play it. Is good news maybe for those who have a very limited internet traffic...

... That's exactly good news for me. Personally I don't mind having big brother or in this case big Romanian cousin applying DRM (Doubvious Restrictive Matrimony) to protect their pile of bugs. My skeletons are n my closet and all my dirty secrets are encrypted on another laptop.:know:
I prefer that than being forced to play with the game cd in. Cooking up my DVD drive and having to carry the game cd everywhere I go is really a bummer.
Alright then, nothing else keeps me from buying this thing except my ongoing campaign on SH4.
See you soon back in time and in the Atlantic!:salute: And thanks very much again for your work improving this game. It's always a pleasure to read you!

It's not the Romanian Devs that caused this.
It's the French Ubi Management.
It's only a matter of time before they surrender.
History proves that!
