View Full Version : Swedish police hunt serial shooter
Stockholm, Sweden (CNN) -- A suspected serial shooter is keeping a city in southern Sweden on edge.
Police say as many as 15 shootings in Malmo over the last year may be linked to a single perpetrator who is targeting immigrants living in the city. Investigators have no suspects.
The shootings have all been well planned, under the protection of darkness and at places familiar to the shooter, according to CNN's Swedish affiliate TV4, citing police.
Several of the shootings have occurred in recent weeks, police say.
On Thursday evening, two immigrant women were wounded when shot through their apartment window.

Not a very good article, missing facts and substance, well as one would expect from CNN.
New shootings appeared at the weekend:
http://www.thelocal.se/29824/20101026/
a brief summary:
- Police claims that the shooter is involved in 19 shootinmgs.
- One dead, 8 wounded.
- the shooter alledgedly uses a handgun :o - ok it's better to conceal, but what about the range?
- (ex-) gang members claim to hunt the shooter  http://www.thelocal.se/29816/20101025/
Read in the local paper today that the Police may have found the shooters DNA.
People are afraid it will turn out into a new *Laserman*
most say it has.

That there would be a new "Laserman" is something that the media has said, which is regrettable and under current circumstances, are the police when some have secured some tracks and in the throes of internal and external search for local police and also (RPS) or national police.

Interesting background about he laserman, didn't know that he was also an immigrant :o. This happens when you let in criminal scum like the Germans and the Swiss! In the case of 'Laser Man, he had a different approach taken, and a studied attitude, force people who were not native-born citizen and had a purpose to really go all the way out, as it is happening now is not the same character, but Of course, equally serious.

Although the laserman was born in Sweden, his parents were immigrants. That's what makes him slighly insane - like Jackie Arklöv, who wasn't even born in Sweden.
True! Jackie Arklöv one of the three who killed two policemen 28 May 1999, in Malexander (to death at close range with his own service weapon) but YES sitting on life's time just as another one of the three

Though Arklöv may already get out in two years :o: http://svt.se/2.22620/1.2186902/arklov_kan_bli_fri_om_tva_ar (note to english speakers: swedish article only)
In theory, it may be so, but in my eyes and knowing it will not be so, he will not be pardoned by the government
(CNN) -- The person behind a string of unsolved shootings in Malmo, Sweden, is probably a man between 20 and 40 years old who gets around on a bicycle and knows the city reasonably well, police said Tuesday.
"What triggers him is the actual shooting -- he doesn't want to play 'cat and mouse' with us. He wants to get away," criminal investigator Per Lidehall said at a news conference Tuesday, according to CNN's Swedish affiliate TV4.Up to 100 officers are now involved in the hunt for the gunman, TV4 reported.
The suspect may be responsible for as many as 19 shootings targeting immigrants, police believe. One person has been killed in the string of shootings and eight have been wounded.

Malmo has been hit by yet another shooting.
Three teenage girls who had been heard and acted on Friday night three shots at Bennett road.
In a bush, they saw a man - with a weapon. The incident was notified, however, only on Saturday. They should then have seen an unknown guy run past, heard three shots and then saw a person standing inside a bush with a gun in his hand.
The shots will be fired at 10-15 feet away, but none of the girls were injured. They should not have felt threatened.
That shot is clear, however it is not known if anyone was hit.
The police have made technological discoveries at the site but would not comment on what this is. The police also claim that it is too previously had to say about Friday night's shootings could be linked to the previously unexplained bouts.

MALMO, Sweden -- Swedish police have arrested a 38-year-old man suspected of a series of shootings of people with immigrant backgrounds in southern Sweden, officials said Sunday.
Investigators said the man, who was not identified, was taken into custody on Saturday on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
Police have previously said they believe a lone gunman is responsible for more than a dozen unsolved shootings in which one person died and eight were wounded in the city of Malmo since October last year.
The victims -- nearly all with immigrant backgrounds -- have been shot at bus stops, in their cars and through the window of a gym.
In a brief statement, police said the arrest was "linked to the shootings that have happened in Malmo recently." Police spokeswoman Sofie Osterheim confirmed to The Associated Press that police suspect he is the "serial shooter" behind the string of unsolved attacks.
More information was expected at a news conference in Malmo later Sunday.

The police is still cautious if they found the right guy: "It is a long way from being concluded," deputy chief constable Åsa Palmqvist said in a Monday morning press conference. http://www.thelocal.se/30084/20101108/ They also speculate if he is involved into shootings dating back to 2003.
Aftobladet however user their more sensationalistic approach, they write that they found a laser sight on one of his pistols - so they try to make him the new laserman - or a copycat : http://www.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/article8087979.ab (swedish only)
The newspapers want to sell their news, at any price, and all the talk about a new Laserman is not even close, but as I said earlier in this thread that this is a serious threat to the rule of law and human rights to avoid things like this, but there is a lot of investigation, technical evidence, such as weapons and the weapons used and whether it is the same weapon all is far from solved, but it is certainly a breakthrough in the investigation
STOCKHOLM-- Media reports in Sweden say a man suspected of a year-long shooting spree against immigrants in the southern part of the country has been ordered held in jail on preliminary charges of one murder and five attempted murders.
A court document before the hearing in the Malmo district court identified the man as 38-year-old Peter Mangs. He has denied the allegations.
Investigators say they believe he is the lone gunman who has terrorized the city since October last year with more than a dozen shootings against people with immigrant backgrounds.
Police said Mangs doesn't have a previous criminal record, and holds a license for two guns that were seized in his apartment.
Swedish radio says the court ruled he was a flight risk and ordered him jailed during the investigation.
