I'm waiting for UPS delivery today of parts for new project.

Since my regular game computer aka Cray jr. by friends, isn't connected to internet or ability to do so. And no antiVirus or other programs to run in background. And a trimmed down W7 64BIT.

I thought I'd build something to play SH5 and RoF-ICE and see if I could do it fairly cheap using hardware from TigerDirect and Amazon.

Especially after all the posts of " Can I build a rig to play SH5 for this $." ?

This is what I bought.

CPU-Mobo combo- http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6077909&csid=_22

Video card
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5637429&CatId=2306

Bought at Amazon, XFX Version Lifetime Warranty $150.00 free shipping

RAM X 4 Wanted to take advantage of mobo 16gb and W7 64bit
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6613461&CatId=4534 Lifetime Warranty

HDD
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3179250&CatId=2458

PSU
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3276567&CatId=2533 Lifetime Warranty

CASE
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4146085&CatId=32

I have a extra optical drve so didn't buy one.

While prices shown are TigerDirect I bought thru Amazon and saved about $150.00 more and free shipping.

So after I get it together we will see if SH5 modded and at high settings can be played on a rig well under $1000.00

IMHO the hardware is above average for price paid.

BTW... While I shopped for price I also shopped for quailty and warranty/Support.

The cheapest part isn't always the Best.

She runs like a top.:woot: Recognized all 16gb of ram. Updated all drivers for win7 64.

All software in and ready to use. Now to install games. :woot::woot::woot:

Hmm. 16 gb of ram... what the hell are you gonna run.:rotfl2:

Hmm, this reminds me I need to upgrade my CPU, E 8400 is getting old, probably makeing a bottleneck with my 480.

I feel I must defend tilt old dually:D
It all depends on if your playing games are heavily optimised for multicore, try dropping the resolution. If there is a huge increase in framerate then you're cpu limited.

16GB is indeed kind of overkill, but nice going otherwise. I did the same thing almost a year ago (got a gaming-only rig), and she's still a great machine, even if much more modest than this one :)

This isn't my primary game rig. That one has 24gb.

Other than the ram this rig is a throwaway compared to my primary game rig.:-?

But it's a good idea to reserve, or as a backup if something goes wrong with your current rig, :yep:

That was my thought on it too.

Very true! I've been stuck computer-less before - never again :D
It's also nice to be able to separate out media, work and games, and tune a computer to each. Makes everything run a lot smoother :yep:
