Hi everyboady, I've finished playing the single players missions and some more missions I downloaded and I started few Campaigns. I noticed that if you select the same starting year and the same Home Harbour, the mission locations seems to be almost the same i.e the grids you are assigned are almost the same every time. Is there some tool to "ransomise" these grids and are "patrols" the only mission type you are assigned during the Campaign?
Thanks for your help. I play sh3 1.4 + gwx 3.0 Gold.
Yup, Silent Hunter 3 Commander:

And since you use GWX 3, DON'T forget this:

Though the set of patrol grids it chooses from are still a bit limited. To my recollection (sniffing through those files) there were only a handfull in the pool it chooses from. (based on base, flottilla and month/year iirc) It's expandable though if you want to do the work. But you can also just set a specific grid if you know where you want to go.
are "patrols" the only mission type you are assigned during the Campaign?Yes. You do receive occasionally radio messages, but they are just immersion filler. They are probably not in sync with the objects generated by the campaign. Aside from that you get location reports on the map of single targets and convoys and taskforces. The latter two also come with a radio message. But none of them all are required for you to respond to. Do as you please. You're a free Kaleun, even if it is historically/realistically un-true.

And with SH3 Commander you can do so much more, including setting your own patrol area! :D

I believe it's limited to the historical grids that boats in your chosen flotilla in that time period were actually sent to.

(I got it from some thread in here) It should show in detail where Uboots were sent too over the course of the years:

That's right....and Commander also gives you the option of selecting your own grid.

Wow super thanks for your help! I actually heard about that application but perhaps didn't read their thread carefully since I thought was mainly used to edit logs crew etc. Thanks a lot for your helpful hint.

Commander? It does a great many things:
Realistic career length, with retirement.
A complete biography for your captain, including place and date of birth and promotion dates.
Randomized names for your captain and crew (1.7 billion combinations).
Starting crew that are not all green.
Realistic crew transfers, both out and in.
Start any month of the war, not just at the first of the year.
Choose your boat type, number, and starting grid.
Start patrols at sea.
Select, or randomize, days spent in base between patrols.
Randomize gramophone tracks.
Choose fatigue model, including none at all.
Adjust water clarity.
Randomize u-boat crush depth.
Ship sinking details: name, cargo, crew and crew lost for each ship sunk.
Randomized malfunctions and sabotage (selectable - you don't have to use this).
Ability to control deck gun firing rate.
Ability to control wave height by season.
Adjust time compression parameters.
Write your own patrol logs, and then install them into SH3.
Hand out as many - or as few - medals and promotions as you want.
You can also add randomized mods to Commander, such as (just an example) my Randomized Loading Screens mod, which uses SH3 Commander to give you one of 100 different screens every time you boot up the game, plus 25 different randomized marches, so every time you leave home you'll hear the band play a different song.
SH3 Commander to me is just as vital as any mod you can think of. It is what keeps me playing SH3 more than any other reason.

Everything Steve listed, plus:
It can drill a man-sized hole through any torpedo belt and still be sharp enough to slice tomatoes, carrots, navy beans, and lemmings! :arrgh!:

SH3 Commander is essential if you ask me. Make its nice to see how much damage you're doing to the allies, even though you know they're going to win the war.
Also I always go straight to my assigned grid coordinate, then spend 2 weeks trawling my preferred hunting grounds for convoys, if I find nothing well that's just fate.

Another thing it provides is the ability to convert your demise from enemy fire into surrender, if you're on the surface!
Unfortunately there isn't a PoW camp mod at the moment so to recreate this you must turn off all electrical items, except maybe a 20W bulb hanging from the ceiling. Walk around your garden dropping soil in different places. Talk in whispered tones execpt when the guard (wife or girlfriend) is around then talk about something benign quite loud. Repeat daily for the duration of the war, strictly on 1x TC. :D
