I wrote this one today:

Quiet day on a windswept field

Here I stand beside you, within this swaying grass

I picked this special spot for you

Where your games will forever last.

You’ll chase the playful scents along

As they ride upon the wind

And I will thank the Lord forever long

That I could call you friend.

You never once got mad with me

Even when I was at my worst.

And you loved me very faithfully

Though, we were strangers there at first.

The pride I felt when you learned my words

And reached out to shake my hand

Sit and stay and fetch the stick

You followed each command.

Whenever I walked through the door

You raced to give me greetings

But I long for the day where once again

We will reenact such meetings.

I embrace you for the final time, dear boy

Then I place you in the ground

Life demands that I should leave you now

But I think I’ll stick around.

The sound of our moment holds my ears

Yet… in the distant park

I hear a young man laughing…

…And that old familiar bark.

That is rather well done, GR. A moving tribute to a good friend.

I think Mark Twain said it best when he opined that if admission to heaven were based on merit, our dogs would go in and we would stay out. :O:

Went to a beautiful eating place yesterday. That was my poem. The sight was really poetic :O:
