Buy it :yep:

I was a SHIII lad who thought I would never go to SHV as I sold my soul creating 88 mods for SHIII. I asked the same question as you did.

I went out of my comfort zone and bought SHV......I have not looked back since.

Many members are very annoyed as certain aspects of the game, it's my job as a modder to make the game more enjoyable and try to create mods that the SHV community member want.

The most documented downfall of SHV is DRM this is outside the modder control and the thought of having to be online to play SHV is a big negativity that turns a lot of gamers away.

In conclusion it is your call, the pictures in the game will either sell it for you or not.

Like I said I'm a modder and I have not looked back.

Kind Regards

Venatore

Find the cheapest deal you can and buy it.
There are some great things already modded.
And some great things to come soon.

claybirdd,

That's correct ......... no internet = no play

No need to make a post about it claybirdd, as this is a heavy subject already and there are many posts/threads in the SHV archives that talk about this very subject. It sucks and we are all pissed about it.

How's this for a scenario ....... you have the internet ....... but the servers are down so you can't play :nope: now that's annoying :damn: However; this type of incompetence from gaming franchises will not stop me from modding this game which has so much damn potential.

Sorry tonight was my first time to take a gander at the SHV boards. the only times I can get online is when its slow at work, so I dont get to read the forums as much as I used to.

Definitely worth buying. Just make sure your system can run it easily because it does suffer from crashes although I think this is because of certain mods. I am yet to find out yet because ive gone back playing silent hunter 3 (Once I get sunk im going back to 5). I think 5 with some decent mods and constant development will actually make it better than number 3. Oh and the graphics are incredible.

If it's cheap, why not? It's not a bad game per se, definitely not as good as it could have been, but it's worth a few dollars at least. The net requirement is a bit of a bind if the servers go down, or you happen to have a dodgy connection (or none at all), but it works for the most part.

what was the reasoning for the "online" requirement. merely curious.

Fighting piracy.
:rotfl2:

No, seriously.
:haha:

No, really, I mean it.
:har:

Actually that was their thinking, that a pirated copy couldn't talk to the servers. It kept some of us from buying the game at all, and some of us still won't buy it while that requirement is there.

No one knows how many people haven't bought it for that reason, but a lot of people have, so they have their money. And no one knows what effect it actually had on the pirates. There have been many arguments about it from many different points of view, but that was the reason they did it, and that's where we still are today.

thanks steve.
i know this thread is being dragged around by me, but i'm also rather surprised to see that there isnt a dynamic campaign as in SH3.
just a set of stepping stone scenarios with that zaniest of gaming ideas
that what i might do in 1 little ol' type VII will have a profound effect on the course of the war. hmmm. ( i hope i'm mistaken about this, am i?)

i'm glad i didnt pitch my cd of sh3 or even sh4.

thanks

Actually the way the campaign is set out is the best of both worlds . You can either go out on patrol like sh3/4 or accept a mission . You are asked do you want to just go on patrol without accepting missions . So this idea about sh5 being not dynamic is rubbish also . The game changes depending on where you have been and the decisions you make regarding sinking and sightings . It is way beyond anything available from sh3/4 regarding the campaign . Although no one has modded the campaign yet , so this is all on vanilla . Imagine what a modder could do , the mind boggles .

well...it looks like the SH5 campaign is a long way unrealistic

you have to sink at least 300.000 tons to go through the third mission:DL

well...it looks like the SH5 campaign is a long way unrealistic

you have to sink at least 300.000 tons to go through the third mission:DL Use the lite campaign 1.2 mod that reduces the tonnage . Or forget the missions and just patrol and type in silentotto at the campaign screen to bring up all the campaigns , start in any campaign .

sober, i'm curious as to your comment "just patrol"? This option would be something you would choose in port when you speak with the senior officer about your next mission and you choose not to go with choose your next mission?

thanks

How well I recall the Oriskany. It was on a liberty in San Diego that I had a bit to much to drink, and when he got off the liberty boat on Coronado I proceeded up the Oriskany's gangplank, saluted, and when I walked across the hangar bay I thought in my drunken stupor, something isn't right.I went back to the Chief that was in charge of the gangplank and asked him what ship I was on?He replied....the Oriskany.I slurred, then I think I better get on the right ship,as I was a crew member of the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk, berthed behind the Oriskany. The chief gave me a sheepish grin, and said ya that might be best!
Buy the game Warlimont. With all the mods,it is great fun!
