The White House is usually quite good at keeping a muzzle on the media after one of its off-the-record sessions with President Obama and senior members of his administration.
But not this week.
A group of black bloggers and journalists from outlets like Essence and BET were invited to the White House on Monday for a half-day of policy briefings by the president’s advisers. The White House provided the journalists with an agenda that spelled out the ground rules: the first half of their briefings was to be on background, meaning they could report any information they learned but not attribute it to any specific official; the second half was off the record entirely.

This and the comment the other day "They are relying on the black vote to stay home" really has me shaking my head.
A great uniter?
"Off the record" briefings by the government (who are supposed to be accountable to the public by default and at all times) have got to be the stupidest idea ever. The leak serves them right.

If its "Off the record" why tell a f-ing journalist!
That's like telling a crack addict where to get the cheapest drugs but then telling them not to go there its only for you!

Presidential administrations have been dictating what is on and what is off the record, as well as regulating quoted sources for decades. The administrations of Bush 43, Bush 41, Clinton, Carter, Johnson, Ford, Nixon (clearly) and even Ronald of Tampico have done this.

They called meetings with splinter fragments of the media to give them marching orders too?

The Bush administration frequently catered to FOX News. Par for the course in the modern political media.

Fox News commentators used talking points supplied by the Bush administration, so yes, that's exactly right. If you think that White House management of the media is anything new, you're mistaken.

Any of them ever dictate it based on the reporters skin color?

Doesn't matter. Media management is media management, be it the black media, the Jewish media, the internet media or the (insert group here) media.

Yes. Presidential administrations cater to the press of specific ethnic backgrounds all the time. Now that the left is in power, the right is suddenly rife with righteous indignation; an inversion of the action from several years ago. It is as if, despite the fact that they do the same things, each side so fervently believes themselves to be morally superior.

Be all that as it may it is very intriging to see the left turn upon itself.
No there is something quite different here.

There's never anything new or different in politics. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss; so it has been, so it shall ever be. And the band played on.

“We essentially told the White House that we are not willing to be ‘pimped,’” the blog said. “Oh, we used better articulation, but it was direct and could not be taken out of context, misunderstood or ignored.

So your idea of a leftist turning on itself is a blog that describes itself as capitalist?
It certainly puts a whole new perspective on your views, normally you call the center right socialists , but now you are at the stage where the bourgoisie have miraculosly become the proletariat just because you don't think.
So how do we tell who is who?
The new one gets paid to do nothing much while the old one now gets paid to simply speak.
Yes. Presidential administrations cater to the press of specific ethnic backgrounds all the time.
Really, can you name an example?

Damn thats a hard one, I mean how on earth can you find an example of the white house liason office doing an "informal" briefing for cubans perhaps.
Bloody hell you would have to look for a story involving errrrrr...Cubans in america:har:
Did the troll say anything worth reading?

Yes. It is one of those things that is hard to track down, and I didn't think I would find it, but here is one with George H. W. Bush having luncheon exclusively with black journalists.

Wow Marlin Fitzwater.. nearly forgot about him.
But a 'luncheon' with 'black journalist' to discuss issues is not exactly what was going on here.

Me too. Talk about a blast from the past.

I'm sure that there was no attempt at that luncheon to sway any opinion, right? Granted that the method was far more subtle, but the intention was the same. The primary difference is that the Obama Administration is far more amateur in their approach to relations with these groups. The result is that you'll see this blow up on them more often.

Actually from the accompanying article it was mainly to apologize the "hullabaloo" caused by remarks made by the Assistant Secretary of Education. If fact the intention behind that meeting sounds like the total opposite of what Obama tried to do here, but, point taken.

I was going to just say "Who?", but I thought that would be too obvious.
