Steam has an open Beta for Medal of Honor, just go to the store page and download it to play.
It's open until the 7th. So if you want to try out MoH, now is the time.

And it doesn't work. At least not for me. :haha:
Tried all the things that I usually have to do to get EA games to work(adding them to DEP, and Running as Admin).
I get a black screen with the words loading in the corner and a new mouse icon, and then it goes back to steam. Without an error message.
Edit, After watching this:

I don't even want to try the Beta anymore. :har:
Edit2: And a minute later I get it to work.

Surprised you didn't get the beta on the PS3 weeks ago. It's a bug fest and considering the lateness of this release on Steam I suggest they are doing one final bug hunt/complaint generation before they compile probably the biggest patch in gaming history.
Shame really, it had the makings of a good shooter.

I haven't turned on my PS3 in a while to be honest. :haha:
Been meaning to, so I can try the Vanquish demo, and I need to finish Yakuza 3.
Just played about 30 minutes of this, and didn't notice any bugs.
It does feel like a generic shooter, but I enjoyed playing it.
I usually came in the 2nd or 3rd slot using the sniper rifle. Although both sniper rifles feel pretty much the same, no matter what team you are on. And I scored a lot of kills no scope.
I do have to say, on Medium this game is beautiful.
I might pick it up when it's cheaper for the campaign, don't feel like dishing out 50-60 for a FPS multiplayer game at this point in time.
I think playing this for the next 3 days will fill my FPS hunger for a while.

Makes me wonder if they are aware of something called "recoil". :-?

You know, now that you point it out, there isn't any recoil. :hmmm:
I think I'm going to reinstall Crysis and actually play through it. :haha:
Especially with Crysis 2 coming out.

Recoil in a mainstream game? What the hell you're on?

Yes, but you think they would of at least improved the content. This looks exactly like the same thing.

Last COD I played was World at war. Haven't tried any of the newer ones, nor any "modern warfare" titles.
I honestly thought it WAS the same game in that video. Took me two replays of the video and a reading in the comment section to realize it was a comparison of two different games.
Same crap, new wrapper. I think i'll just get the older title and get the exact same level of enjoyment for less cash.
Tried the beta.
Battlefield Bad Company 2 + Modern Warfare 2 = Medal of Honor.

You know this isn't about Call of Duty, but Medal of Honor and Battlefield Bad Company? :O:
The only thing that I really like in this Beta/game is the random talking that goes on in the background. Things like players shouting "RPG!" when they see one, and just random chatter, without the actual player having to say/do anything.
Although I have seen this feature in a couple of other games.

Honestly, they all look alike to me. A few years ago it was easy to tell the difference between MOH and COD, but nowdays? phhhtt. I guess im just not that into it anymore.
edit: and now the battlefield series is apparently getting more like the other two? Last BF game i played was ahh... the one right after BF vietnam.. BF2 I think? I dunno, gameplay's all the same regardless. I never did get BF vietnam.

Battlefield series has greater scale than the other two. And Bad Company 1&2 both feature level destruction not seen in Medal of Honor or Call of Duty. All Battlefield and MOH feature driveable vehicles. While Badcompany has more and a greater diversity of vehicles.
Battlefield 3 will most likely be like Battlefield 2.

I doubt it, as they have released two small WWII battlefield games, Battlefield:Heros, and Battlefield 1943.

Well, I've tried the real game and have to say I'm glad I did not pay full price for it.
Overall it feels like your average FPS, Although there are three things that set it apart from most mainstream FPSs.
1. Cover and lean: While this is in most PC shooters, it's a rare quality in games made for Consoles. I have to say that it definitely makes it feel more "realistic" (I Know :haha:).
If you've ever played Modern Warfare you know the game play basically comes down to run and gun, and then hide behind cover while you wait for your health to regenerate. This isn't much of an issue with MoH when you can peak around corners/over low walls(Although it's funny because most reviewers say it's harder to die in this than MW.) Although there is one problem with the mechanic; I'll cover when I get to controls.
2. The ability to change your rate of fire(which shouldn't be a big deal in Shooters ;)). My main issue with this, is the fact they left out 3-Round burst. If you're going to brag about the fact that you have different fire rates, you think you would include all three.
3. You can request ammo from your Allies. But they always refill you back up to 300 rounds.
Now my issues with the game:
1. It only lets me run in medium, High isn't an option. I think I should have the choice to see how well the game runs on High, whether they think I can't or not. As a Side note, I run Empire Total War on a higher setting than the game recommends and have no problems.
2. The controls suck. They definitely just ported the control layout from the console versions without trying to make it work for the PC, or giving you the ability to map out your controls fully. Now this is an issue because Left control and C both drop you into the next lowest stance. So if you hold Control to try and crouch you'll go prone. Meaning you have to tap Control to go crouch. This is something that works on a game pad controller, but is a pain to use on a keyboard. Especially when you're used to holding control to stay crouched.
The next issue with controls is the fact that to aim down your sights you need to hold the right mouse button. Which is also something that works on game pads(holding down the shoulder button). But it's a bit awkward to hold down the mouse button while trying to do other things. I expect the ability to have right mouse toggle between the two modes(Like ARMA and Crysis).
The third major issue with the controls is the cover system. Now you can use Q and E to lean out of cover which works fine. But if you hold Left Alt, you'll cling to cover, from there you have to use WASD to peak around the different sides. Now this is something else that works on a game pad(Shoulder buttons again). But sucks on a keyboard.
Other than that the other controls are basic FPS. Although F is Use, G is Grenade, and H is HUD. So it's a bit easy to accidentally toss a grenade at a fellow teammate.
3. They streamlined the HUD, so it's only there when you need it(hit H), when you're aiming at Friendlies(their makers pop up showing that they're friendly), and when you reload.
Now this makes it so that 90% of the time you're looking at your gun and whatever you're shooting at. This really immerses you in the game... Until the little icon pops up in the bottom of the screen alerting you every time you score a head shot. :damn:
4. The campaign is only 4-5 hours(Haven't finished it but this is what Reviewers say). And unless you're going to spend time in Multiplayer, you're not going to get the bang for your buck.
5. Ballistics are worse than CoD. At least in the CoD sniper mission , you have to somewhat account for bullet drop/wind. Here you just have to aim for the head, pull the trigger and score a headshot! And be rewarded with the little icon on the bottom of the screen! :yeah:
Also I'm not sure if bullets penetrate cover. Sometimes it appears that they do, other times it doesn't.
As a side note, the major reviewers complained that the friendlies throw out too many military terms, so at times you have no clue what they're saying. I haven't experienced this yet, so I don't know. Also reviewers say that they compare it to Call of Duty because the controls are pretty much the same. Which I find hilarious since CoD is based of the MoH franchise.
Like I said in the beginning, definitely a Generic FPS, and not something you should pay full price for. I'd suggest paying 10-15 dollars, or if you have a console(PS3,360) rent it.

High might be Dx10/11. Dunno if you have Vista/7 and the hardware. :hmmm:
Not all weapons have 3-round burst setting. Which ones are we talking about? :06:
List of ARs:
Heckler & Koch MP7A1 - single/auto
FN P90TR - single/auto
FN F2000 Tactical - single/auto
Heckler & Koch G3 - single/auto
Colt M16A4 - single/depending of configure either auto or 3-burst
Colt M4A1 - single/auto
CQB-R / Mk. 18 Mod 0 - single/auto (I think)
AK-47 - single/auto
Kalashnikov AKS-74U/PA md. 86 - single/auto
Mk. 14 Mod 0 Enhanced Battle Rifle - single/auto

Burst is pretty rare, isn't it? Only one I know for sure off the top of my head is the M16. Seem to recall G36 has it as well? :hmmm:
Guess it's not that useful. You have much more control by doing 'double-tap' on semi mode than firing an 3-round burst.
Arclight
10-20-10, 10:01 AM
Aye, never use burst in something like ArmA, for whatever that's worth. Especially at range, first round is on target and the rest just goes long.
Well, I do use burst, at close range. But just controlled bursts at full-auto.

I have DirectX11, so I don't know why it wouldn't let me choose high.
If 3 round burst isn't that common, disregard my complaint about it.
Although I forgot to mention the doors. Just like MW your character seems to be daftly afraid of door knobs. Meaning you have to wait for a friendly or an enemy to open a door for you.
Unless of course its a shoddy wooden door, in this case you're supposed to kick it down to breach a room. The problem with this, is that enemies are shooting you before you can see into the room. :dead:

Rather like the game. Only played SP yet, and yes it was short, but enjoyable. Scripted, but fun. And the missions were most of the time nicely tied in with each other. The sound is fantastic. Playing on PC btw.

It may be fun, but not 60 dollars worth of fun. :O:
I do admit the sound is great. EA and Dice took some 120 guns to a shooting range and recorded firing them at different targets in different conditions. Mind you they'll use the same exact sounds for all there upcoming games, but that's not a bad thing.

Certainly not, but that's not what I payed for it. Payed 499 SEK, which is closer to...50 USD I believe. somewhere between 45-50 USD. Still expensive, but nothing really out there.
I've read reviews that takes up performance issues, and I for one cannot list any real problems. They say they have problems with FPS, but my game runs like a dream, and I have it on high settings.
And I've got no problem with them reusing sounds, as long as the sounds are good. And everything in this game sounds quite excellent, even the voiceacting is quite impressive.

That's actually worse. :haha:Lionclaw was telling me earlier that console games go for 500-600 SEK in Sweden. Looked it up and 500 SEK is 75 USD.
A new console game is $59.99 USD, with tax $64.18. According to google this equals 426 SEK. A PC game should only be $49.99USD/332.14SEK
I've only had lag at one point, and playing the same point again did not produce the same lag.

Just a couple more observations.
There is off course the obligatory stealth mission, where you have to sneak through two small villages, but you ride ATV's too both villages, and park them within 4-5 meters of each village. Because ATV's are quiet. :03:
At one point you have to snipe across the valley, while sitting on your ATV with a silenced Barret, at one point I shot at a guy 4 times(my aim was off, as I am playing on Cold meds and I'm slightly loopy just form my cold) and he was none the wiser until my final bullet hit him in the arm, causing his head to explode.
Shortly afterword there is the point where you have to jump said ATV as if you are in a stunt competition.
And my final Issue is I went ahead of my team a little bit, and ended up catching two enemies while they were in the process of spawning, which is a minor issue, as this can happen to any game.
The good thing about this game, is it makes me want to play ARMA 2 and DCS again. Anyways back to playing.
Edit: Here's something interesting I found with the lighting.

The pictures are chronological. The darkest screen is what the cave looks like when you first enter it. The second is when you turn on nightvision; the third is right after you turn it off and the fourth is what you see finally. Now if you look outside, and then back at the cave again the darkness levels return to the first screen.
It's a minor nitpick, but it should be darker before it gets lighter. Not the other way around.
