View Full Version : SH3 Unplayable!
After installing SH3 and getting it setup with GWX, everything works very nicely, except, the next time I reboot after running SH3, my desktop is changed to 1024 x 768 and all my icons re-arranged to the left!! :damn:
I hope this is something that's happened to others and a solution has been found because I'm not going to be able to use SH3 if I have to re-arrange my desktop every time I start up my computer.
I have SH4 but ordered SH3 so that I could concentrate on the Atlantic U-boat war and use SH4 for the Pacific USN war.
This is beyond frustrating!
You can search and setup the hi-res mod. I have no such problems playing in 1280x1024.

Try right clicking on your desktop and selecting 'Arrange icons by' and tick 'Align to grid'

It's not just an icon problem, my desktop resolution gets changed to 1024 x 768 when restarting the computer after having played SH3 in a previous session. My desktop is normally 1280 x 960

Ah, right....sorry I misunderstood.
I'm running a 22" widescreen and simply set the thing to auto...currently running on 1680 x 1050.
SH3 does need 1024x768 to display it's screens. But maybe your graphicscard driver settings has an option to (automatically) scale it to whatever resolution you usually have. Atleast, NVidia does on my system.

I'm using NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+ I'm not sure how to apply the scaling to SH3 although I've seen the scaling option somewhere.
My problem is not so much with the game but with what happens after. On the next re-start of my computer, my desktop gets re-sized by itself so I have to go to properties, resize and re-arrange my icons the way I like to have them again... a royal pain in the butt!
I un-installed SH3/GWX and SH3 Commander and then reinstalled SH3 vanilla. Started up SH3, started a campain, shut it down , re-booted and all was well.
Then installed GWX3, started the game, shut it down, re-booted and my desktop resolution re-sized itself again. So it looks like GWX3 is causing this to happen :wah:
The game is also not centered on my monitor, it's to left enough to cover the play menu and back button. Outside of the game everything is centered on my monitor.

I'm not sure what the problem can be. I recently purchased a 28" widescreen. I run it at 1440x900. I don't use any widescreen mods, so SH3 with GWX is slightly stretched, but when I'm not playing my screen stays where it's set with no problem, which would suggest that it's not the mod itself causing your problems, but some kind of combination.

Outside of the game everything is centered on my monitor. That sounds more like a bad case of driver bugs. Does that happen with other games aswell? (games that are of similar age) What's the driver version? I mean, the changelog for GWX3 doesn't indicate any changes in regards of resolutions or such settings. GWX doesn't mess with those DLLs that refer to DirectX or the graphicscard.
(Right-click on desktop, choose "NVidia Control Panel", goto menu: Help, choose "System Information". On the Display-tab under "Graphics card Information" in the list should be a line with the "Driver version"

No only SH3 and only with the GWX mod installed. I've run it with only SH Commander and it doesn't mess with my screen resoloution, but as soon as I install GWX and play, then the next time I re-boot the computer my desktop goes to 1024 x 768 by itself

I gave the driver's thing a shot too, I d/loaded and installed the latest, Sept. 27th. I believe, and no change.
I did accidentally come across the cure for the game screen being shifted too far to the left though, I've been running my computer's video at 60 Hz and kicked it up to 75Hz, now the game sits exactly in the center of my monitor :)
I'm going to un-install and re-install once more and see what happens. I doubt that the 75Hz option will change my original problem though. :hmmm:
I'd like to thank all those that have given input to this problem. It appears to now be solved.
I uninstalled everything related to SH3, including from the Documents folder. Then re-booted and re-installed SH3, then GWX. I started a career, shut down SH3, rebooted and my desktop resolution did not change. :DL
Whether it was due to the latest video drivers or setting the video to 75Hz, I dunno, but it now works as it should. :)
Again, thank you all :)
