I keep wishing they add challenging AI to the game but looking back .... :damn:

I believe they were both mentioned in the Bit of News topic. :hmmm:
Here's another one you may not have seen:

Aaah bit of news I missed that. The two I linked must be fairly new, they were sent from SEGA to my email.

Here's the dates Gametrailers has for them:
Exclusive Gameplay Cinematic Trailer
Jul 28, 2010
Battle Report: Episode 11
Sep 2, 2010
But then again, gametrailers usually gets videos before they're put up elsewhere.
On a side note, I have to say the game is looking good. I just hope we can turn off the "Morale Bar" and have the traditional flashing flags as a judge on whether or not a unit is about to route.

NTW has it too, I think.

This video mentions it. It's a green bar underneath the icon for each unit. As they start to falter the bar drops from green to red.
Well, morale indicators have been around since forever.
Cautiously optimistic here. The first one's definitely a much-loved classic, although not as refined as some people tout it to be (honestly, I had more, not less issues with its AI than the later games), and I'll wait to see if this lives up.

I'm hoping they don't try to appeal to the mainstream media too much. The 14 minute video I posted seemed like they were pushing "Best Graphics, evar!" and "Most units on screen, evar!" too much.

The mere mention of 'hero units' when the game was announced put me off immediately, especially if it's as unmoddable as ETW and NTW.
Spike88
10-03-10, 05:34 PM
But ETW has several mods. :hmmm:
I watched a video somewhere(forget which one) where they said Hero units wont be able to hold a bridge single-handedly but will be able to take on single units by themselves or something like that.
Does anyone know if Medieval 2 works on 7? I had trouble getting it to work on Vista sometimes it would work, other times it wouldn't.

Yeah, but ETW and NTW is quite unmoddable compared to earlier TWs.

Which is just as bad...

Well, I'm unsure of the last part, so don't hold my word accountable. But I know for sure they said the Hero Units won't be overpowered. I remember whatever they said made me feel better about the whole ordeal.
Hopefully they will have an option to play Campaign with Hero's off either way.
I think if game producers want to bring mainstream gamers into their games, they should have the abiliy to choose between the new gameplay and the old gameplay. Much like DCS: Black Shark, you can play it as an Acecombat like game, or as a hardcore simulator.

The problem with these 'hero units' is that if they're overpowered, they're wildely unrealistic and will in all probability heavily detract from gameplay, and if they're realistically balanced, they become one of the most useless features ever found in a game. Individual hero units have little place in a game whose basic units include hundreds of men, especially when one of their main selling points so far is that there can be more men on screen than ever.

Never realized that and I have ETW and NTW :nope:
Yeah first one really made an impression on me. It was great. I just hope for a smart AI and challenging campaign without AI resorting to cheating
and of course multiplayer campaign.

Was it clear yet if unit refers to an individual, or a unit like any other?
I'm thinking hero units just have some extra bonus, like the elite units in all the other games, but some kind of twist... maybe just an overpowered unit? :hmmm:

Well, the way IGN put it in the preview sounded a lot like it's a single man unit. For example, they said that hero units are based on mythologized 'historical' figures and that one of the tactics for countering them is to let your own hero units engage them in duels.
We can only hope it isn't.

Hero units in Shogun Total War isn't really new, there was 1 in the original Shogun Total War with the Mongol Invasion expansion.
the Kensai!
not exactly a Hero unit, but 1 single man unit that could chop off 55 heads without breaking a sweat...heck I've seene one of mine collect a lot more.

Ah, I've heard the name quite a few times, but I didn't know it was a single man unit.
Either way, that doesn't legitimize it, it only makes it worse. Useless features are to be disposed of, not upgraded.
Spike88
10-04-10, 05:41 AM
Well that makes the situation a little better.
Although there is mention of RPG elements and Customization for your Generals. You can not only upgrade your generals(which isn't a bad thing), but you can change their personality. Which I'm a little iffy on.

It will be good, just early days yet Castout. Can guarantee I would of put those vids up if I had known about em.
Another I found out about today where I don't know if its worth putting up a new thread as its probably already mentioned somewhere, a new single player from Warhammer40k series.
Warhammer Space Marines. Is in the making
Okay back to topic,. :DL
Well, heroic samurai and badass ninjas are, for better or worse (or much worse), what will push most games about medieval Japan. Nobodies with spears, less so. I guess all we can do is wait and see...
