After nine months of struggling, losing our drummer to drugs and jail, finding a new drummer, writing a bunch of new songs, and some serious equipment changes, Monkey Rum has finally got out playing again, ironically enough at a place called Five Monkeys!
Our new drummer Ted is a marvel. not only is he great, he fits in with our style(s) perfectly and he sings as well!
I know it hasn't been that long since I showed off my new five-string bass in my 'My New Baby' thread, but I've traded it in already and upgraded to the six-string version of the same model (Ibanez SoundGear 506).
So we got invited by some friends to fill in one of their sets, did ten songs, did one more for an encore, and got a great reception. And the girlfriend of one of Charles's sons made a video with an iPhone, and I'm amazed at how well it came out.
Since we were sharing the stage we were a bit crowded, but we lived with it.
First up is our opening number, an instrumental called Torturra Amore.

And our regular closer, Speak No Evil, which is also on the videos of our show last year.

Things are starting to look up again, and hopefully this will lead to a real gig at Five Monkeys. And if not, we're scheduled to play at Liquid Joe's again in November, and we're talking to some different clubs about our country, blues and folk stuff. :D
