View Full Version : SH3 and Linux ???
Hi folks
Just wanted to check this option.
Does SH3 work in Linux environment ? (I just read somehwere, that Direct X 11 is coming to Linux)
As I still cannot play the game in Windows 7 (32 bit) because of the Nvidia graphics driver issue, I thought of alternatives.
I got the game somehow running under an older Nvidia driver version, but I do not want to stick to this solution, as there is steady progress on the driver side .. besides: I got lots of issues in gameplay with this driver version, which I never experienced under the old XP system, but which are discussed in length in the technical forum ...
So - I thought of installing a Linux system additionally to my Win7 system - just to play this game, if it is possible ????
Whats your opinion.
I'd really love to go back to GWX or LSH3 ...
thanx folks

There is a fairly recent thread on this issue. You may wish to seek it out as it was informative. From what I remember, it is do-able. There was minor graphics glitch which was resolved.
This is just from memory, which may be off, but just the information on fixing the graphics glitch would make it worth your time to seek out the thread.
HKLE, why would you use Linux as an OS, when you have W7,to solve problems with graphic card driver routines are well Number 1,but it is possible to use Linux, yes

Hi Vendor
Because Win7 and SH3 do not work together on my PC.
With new Nvidia drivers, it won't start at all. (Even when playing around with compatibility settings)
With an older NVidia driver version, I may get it to start, but get a lot of small annoyances like CTDs, corrupted saves etc - it is no fun this way.
I know, it is a basic graphic driver problem, but for me it is unsolvable under Win7 - hence the idea with Linux. (I have win7 home premium, so thanks to M$ I am unable to use the WINXP mode)
Maybe we can solve your existing problems of W7, and SH3 problems, if you give a bit more Detail about your spec.

Hi Vendor
Thank you for the offer, I really appreciate it. I am at the office right now, so I cannot provide details, but when I am at home, I will have a look into it.
Generally speaking, I tried in the past to look through the information available, but the only solution until now was to use old graphics drivers. (You may try to look for my name in this forum or over there at UBI.com - my posts within this year AND in relation to SH3 were related to this problem)
But thank you anyway.
You are welcome, but remember that nothing is impossible, :yep:

One of my computers is almost the same as yours. same drivers, same card what I had to do to play sh3 was to change the resolution in the nvidia control panel. It would not play at 1900x1200.I don't know if you tried that but thats my 2 cents-good luck
Hi
I was just stumbling on the same idea - thank you for your comment.
In the past - with old drivers - it did not work. Just now - after posting my specs - I went back to the win 7 tips thread and started working on it - went down to 1280xs1024 and -> I could start the game ?????
Sorry for stirring you up - honestly - it did not work before ?!
Now that the game at least started with one mission, I shall try sh3 commander.
If there are any issues. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks again - you are a great community !
