Hey guys, so I have GWX 3, and SH3 Commander installed and I was wondering what other mods you could reccomend to improve eye candy (I dont have a high graphics card so not visually good looking but extras like lifeboats or maybe a change in water color as I sail into different seas, or erradic weather or such) or gameplay, or GUI's that you all use and reccomend, going through the downloads page is quite daunting so Im a bit lost on what to add next.
Ive downloaded a torpedo damage eyecandy mod that works with GWX and a few others (an environment mod but Im not sure if it works with GWX so I havent installed yet)
But any suggestions would be appreciated.:salute:
I'd reccomend SH5 water mod and SH4 graphics, effects and more (hopefully it's the right name). For some reason lifeboats don't have compatibility with sh4 effects and I'm not using them, so you will have to choose.

Visit my FF account and you'll find a few options....the Q Ship mod is/can be a bit of a challenge.

whats it do? Q ship?
A "Q" ship was a disguised warship. Basically, you take an innocent looking merchant ship, build a bunch of fake deck cargo, and hide a lot of guns inside. You attack, up come the false sides of that fake cargo, and suddenly you want to be very, very far away - or really deep! Really good against surface raiders (what they were originally designed for) or overconfident Uboots on the surface with their single, measly deck gun .......

Hmmmm this sounds interesting. You identify them as normal ships I presume though?? not as a Q?? and any other mods you guys can reccomend, if its graphic preferably somethin that may add immersion but doesnt take huge tole on my System as Im running very low specs but running well

Q-ships were essentially u-boat traps. They were merchant ships armed with concealed weaponry, designed to lure u-boats close enough to mount an attack, at which time the Q-ship would itself attack the u-boat. The Royal Navy commissioned a handful of them during WWII as did the US after their entry into the war.
The Q-ship mod adds them to the game. In RL I don't believe any of them had any notable successes, and the Q-ship programs of both navies were abandoned before war's end - but in the game, they can be a lot of fun...
...if your idea of fun is to put an eel into what appears to be a lone merchant, then surface to finish it off with the gun, only to have them start firing on you before you can get your own crew on deck. It's an eye-opener, that's for sure!
Oh, I forgot something - they were also filled with flotation material - IIRC usually cork - so their flotation value is ridiculous. That eel ain't gonna sink 'em. Like she said - a trap. But the idea goes way back to before subs were around - think Trojan Horse a la waterborne .....
Lemme see if I can't find a good reference -
Well, here is one that DIDN'T win - U 123 got her!

I've sunk several with one eel in the game... but I generally use magnetics, so maybe that makes a difference.
But typically when they finally succumb to the initial damage I'm hurriedly diving and changing course in order to set up another submerged shot from some location which is not currently being riddled with ammo. And they do keep shooting right up 'til the end, the persistent little buggas.

I did not instill any additional flotation characteristics into the mod....simply the guns.

At the ripe old age of 60, my memory ain't all it onct were - but the cork-filled ones were the Brits during WW! - not sure if the later versions were that fancy. It varied by country, year et al.
Edit: Ye Olde Wiki entry:

Note the WWI British reference specifically mentions a cargo of balsa or cork ..........
