Sinking of Oriskany

I just saw part of a "Quest for Sunken Warships" episodes, which showed the sinking of USS Oriskany off Pensacola, to create an artificial reef for ocean wildlife and recreational diving. C4 was used to open various connection pipes to allow water in. She took 37 minutes to sink. Something to think about when pondering the sinking times of ships in GWX.

I just looked up "Quest for Sunken Warships"


It shows on netflix its a 170 minute show.. So this is not a series?

I am looking all over for it, is it only on the military Channel ?

Seen that show a couple times. Very interesting.

The hulk alone took 37 minutes to go down, but I'm sure they were taking their time to make it a 'controlled' sinking.

I wonder how fast she would have gone down if she had been loaded with bombs and aviation gas and hit by 4 torpedoes. :hmmm:

Still, none of her class were sunk during the war and several took some truly horrific battle damage.
