I'm proud to be a sub skipper. Our family had served our nation throughout it's history.
My Great Great Grandpappy.

Great Grandpappy and son, Grandpappy.

And my old father, a merchant Captain in WW1, with mom...

and finally me.

As we were leaving Surabaya, this soul walks on board. We're to drop him off in Fremantle after patrol. Lost his sub why making a sonar only attack, so I guess it's off to the army with him, but we welcome jr.Lt Greyrider.

We head west to patrol the entrance to the Sundra Strait. Not yet on station we pick up a sonar contact. We spotted a large convoy. With only 70ft of water we turn away for deeper water, but driven down by charging escorts.

Three escorts pound us for hours. We make it to 103ft, but no deeper. We outwit and live. Seemingly out of charges after many runs, they leave us.
I turn back north towards the convoy.
Coming towards us slowly zigging, at about 3500 yards I shot one torp at a Kuma. It tracks perfectly and hits. This causes the confusion I was hoping for. The Kuma later speeds up to 24kts, making circles.

We take aim why we have time. Those first 3 escorts gone, but his friends coming, we shoot away.

Then comes the shot. I set up on a Nagara as the Kuma circles towards him. The torp hits the Nagara, loaded it's explosions finish off the Kuma, get credit for both...

better angle of both blowing up..

It was getting tough. I was using merchants to block runs by the escorts. Took some damage, finally hid under a dead in the water merchant, taking out more ships.

Oh crap, bearing 210, fire..as Greyrider screams.."you can't shoot like that, you're not in position"...Well, I says.. close enough"

Near miss as Greyrider says.."Told ya so...

My XO points out someone trying to crawl out the hatch why submerged. He was screamin insanity...."You're not doing it right, that's not 8010.."

Oh, it's him, give em a shot and lock him up fore he gets us all killed.
Things were looking bad, but we waited and finally the convoy moved south, the escorts finally followed. We backed out shooting the ship that saved us...

We got out of there, trying to make it back to Surabaya. That night we came across a TF of two CA's and one DD..I had one torp left. The water was again shallow and calm...I report it and watching my XO piss down his leg, I turn to make a surface attack as the DD was in the rear. We were spotted and dived as shells exploded around us. It was a long shot, The lead CA was zigging and changing speed. I let fly. It looked good, but he saw it, slowed down and turned into it for a miss.

We fought that lone DD all night, escasped. We ran into several more convoys and TF, took a longer route through some deep water and made it to Fremantle. One Kuma, 8 merchants and one man lost at sea....
