Sales taxes or similar levies have always been in place on most online purchases in most states. But they are almost never paid. And with their budgets in crisis, states are more determined than ever to get their share.

I can't imagine that this would go over well with the Tea Party? Or me, for that matter. I think it's only a matter of time before our tax free online shopping fun goes away.

Online shopping is too big not to tax.

What I am afraid of is both states (bought from and sold to) trying to collect taxes. That would suckify.

Already Virginia collects sales tax on what you by outside of Virginia. I don't understand how a state what was not involved in the selling can collect sales tax. The Virginia tax is more like a buying tax.

As we used to fondly say in the military BOHICA

"You may feel a slight cramping sensation."

I posted a poll about this some time back and overwhelmingly the membership would be happy to pay the tax.

Agreed, and it's growing every year. I'm surprised the current system has lasted as long as it has.
