View Full Version : The Pope: Live in Concert, UK

Well, there goes terrestrial TV for a few days, not that there's usually much on it anyway. Some of the comments on the BBCs Have Your Say question of "What does the Popes visit mean to you?" are rather amusing.

And no sign of anyone trying to arrest Pope Palpatine yet.

Why did we let this kiddie fiddling sect leader even enter our country, let alone pay for it all?

Just had a quick look and most of the answers are 'Nothing really'! lol
With all the abuse scandels I think the catholic church should also openly admit to hiding and assisting all the Nazi war criminals to escape to S. America. :yep:
The Jack boots are on the march in Scotland. :shifty: ;)

In his address, the Pope spoke of "a Nazi tyranny that wished to eradicate God from society".
He went on to urge the UK to guard against "aggressive forms of secularism".
:hmmm:
However, the Catholic Church has moved to play down the controversy, saying the Pope knew "rather well what the Nazi ideology is about".

I think i read that in The Onion first. What a sinister phrase!

I heard about arrests on NPR this morning. When they didn't mention any specifics on the background of the perps, I assumed they were Muslims (that works pretty well for US news, just like if they don't constantly say the party of someone in a political scandal, you know which party it is).

Seriously - we spend far too much time 'under the influence' to make it as an islamic nation.
Anyway Im not bothered either way by the Popes visit. The way i see it; if your Catholic in the UK then lucky you!, if not then why does it even matter? - go and buy some new pants or something.

Right then now then, the pope... hmmph. The last thing I heard from him (or probably the previous one) was him saying "condoms are unholy" or words to that effect, which amused me (and only me apparently) because having holes in would sort of defeat the object. Then about a week ago, my local bartender asked me what I thought about the pope visiting Britain. I told him I didn't believe in him, at which point a couple who'd obviously been chatting about it with the barman set about trying to convince me of his existence... "He does exist, you know, he is a real person...." I couldn't find the strength within to explain myself to them. what a world I live in... Oh well, I do amuse myself sometimes, heh...

Five Muslims from Algeria, with a sixth person now arrested as well. I read it in only one news source - all others carefully and sensibly avoid to mention the ethnic identity of those persons at all. Some even did not call them "men", but just "persons" indeed".
Oh this political correctness sensibility!

Can't say I'm particularly surprised. Ah well, more fuel for the Crusade.
Gotta admit I agree with him to some extent:
"There are those who argue that the public celebration of festivals such as Christmas should be discouraged, in the questionable belief that it might somehow offend those of other religions or none."
Although I think he's kinda missed the point with:
"My question for you is this: What are the qualities you see in others that you would most like to have yourselves? What kind of person would you really like to be?'
That's the problem, the kind of people that youth look to for their examples...ie:
http://s.bebo.com/app-image/7931596003/5411656627/PROFILE/i.quizzaz.com/img/q/u/08/04/02/wayne_rooney_the_associated_press.jpg
Or:
http://www.brooklynvegan.com/img/music2/peted.jpg
And so on and so forth.
It's just the tip of the iceberg I know, but still, that's life today, and the Vatican needs to move with the times if it wants to actually maintain some sense of credibility...oh, that and stop trying to protect the priests of buggery. :nope:
Oh this political correctness sensibility!

And how are they going to get the wheelchair bound persons head up to the noose? Seriously, I call foul. I'm going to sue the designers for discrimination now. :nope: Furthermore, those ropes are nowhere near enough security against a fall, someone could get seriously injured on those gallows!

Change the record would you?
Oberon the crazy thing is the people not wanting Christmas to happen or have nativity scenes in shop windows aren't the ethnic minorities or religions but the silly white people who think they are going to get offended when all the ones I meet llike the Christmas malarky.
Back to the pope, when I hear him on the radio he DOES have the comedy sinister german accent when he speaks. Priceless.

I've been completely bladdered in several Islamic nations, and so have the locals. Bahrain tops the lot, strict Saudis crossing the causway, staying in luxurious villas or hotels with prostitutes and drinking all night - but that may just be jealousy talking.

BBC News: Pope compares atheists with Nazis - How would he know? He's never been an atheist.
A sixth man has been arrested in London by police in relation to a potential threat to Pope Benedict XVI's visit.
His arrest, at 1345 BST, came after five men were seized at 0545 BST after counter-terrorism officers received intelligence of a potential threat.
All six, who were street cleaners, have been taken to a London police station.

As a Catholic I myself have to admit that the current pope looks rather creepy :nope:
I'm sure kids will cry when they see him smirk or smile :haha:
It only needs a picture of him crawling upside down either on the floor or the ceiling to . . . . .make obvious. . . . .what his face tells about himself LOL

I have overestimated him massively when he entered office, thinking that what I have heared and read by him before would be examplary for the way he runs the papacy. He is capable of laser-sharp intellectual thinking, no doubt (I have read several pieces by him that clearly illustrated that - but I oversaw that he always puts it under the preassumption of that the stuff in the bible needs to be taken literal (so he explicitly said in his book about Jesus that got published when he became Pope - I even was blinded enough to buy it :-? ). I should have known better - you do not become chief of the inquisition for just nothing.
Well, got blinded once by this guy. Will never get blinded by him again.
I also think that he must be kept unbelievably isolated from the reality outside the walls of the vatican by his staff. That way, he lives in an isolated artificial universe, and his thinking and his statements are coming from that.

I think a great deal of the upper echelons of the Church are like that. I think they long for a time when the Vatican had a great say in the politics of the nations of Europe, and they just haven't been able to move with the times. I think the current Pope wants to try and insert religion back into politics and take a more aggressive stance in the spreading of Christianity but because the top of the Church is in its own little hermetically sealed bubble, his statements only serve to further alienate people from the Church rather than to unite them under its banner.
