Kernel_Stack_inpage_error

I can no longer leave my PC running overnight, or run a full virus scan with McAfee or Norton, or I get a blue screen of death called a Kernel_Stack_Inpage_Error. Sometimes it's a Kernel_Date_Inpage_Error. It's been doing this progressively more for the last 6 months.

And to make matters worser, our Comcast internet speeds have dropped and the connection craps out 10 times a day. About the same time span, six months. We've replaced the cable modem, router, and Comcast has run new cable all the way through.

Are these related? Does anyone know what is causing the error? MS says a software or hardware driver... like there are prolly 400 of those in the system, where to look?

Could be anything from a number of things, ranging from component failure to a virus to Windows just being Windows. How long has this particular installation been in use? What Windows and what kind of hardware does it contain?

What you should probably do first is to run a disc check on all drives, and also try to get even a fast virus scan done.

Kernel_Stack_Inpage_Error is a page of kernal data requested from the pagefile could not be found or read into memory.
This message can indicate a disk hardware failure, data corruption, master boot file corruption or possible virus infection.

Kernel_data_inpage_error is a page of kernel data was not found in the pagefile and could not be read into memory.
This might be due to incompatible hardware or drivers.


Run a disk scan and virus scan.

Well, finally got around to installing and running Malwarebytes or something called that, and it seemed to fix the problem. Computer has been running 3 days without a hitch, and completed a Norton AV scan. :woot:

Well, it worked great for a week, then the BSODs began appearing again. Eventually the hard reboots corrupted WindowsXP to the point where it would not fully reboot, it would just stick at the XP welcome screen. I had to use the Recovery Console and a lot of tedious typing to get the PC working again. (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545)

Now, so far it is working again, no kernal_stack errors after a week... I may get brave and load Norton AV back in and see if the system is unaffected. :shifty:

Jan, did not see anything like that, re: missing drivers. I have been running 2 weeks plus with zero crashes since the last overhaul. Cross your fingers!

Could be a bad sector in the hard drive.:hmmm:

Just thought of this. Go to Frys and buy a set of sata/ IDE adapter cables. Pull the bad HD out and plug it into a new computer and scan it for viruses and/or bad sectors.
