Hei hei hei, got a new portuguese member on board! Welcome!
Piece of advice, do not belive in anything Jimbuna says and you can live to post 1000 posts or more...Others advices with time!:D
About the sub, well I will miss the old Barracuda, it had a type VII nostalgia! Of course the far left party here promote a march against the new subs and beging Portugal to left Nato!
Mmm, German engineering!
Very cool boat. These are really potent vessels, especially for their size.

What's with the jaw drop...it's true! :03:
214s, heard good things about them, capable boats and good size for the Portuguese coast.
Hope they serve you well, the Germans have a habit of building good subs, so I'm sure they will. :yeah:

I've heard horror stories. The Greeks want to dump them as defective and the ROK had to make major changes to reduce noise.

Or find a cute Portugese lady to translate it for me.:03:

Not if its turning a poorly designed prop and has bad AIP Fuel Cells...
The air-independent propulsion (AIP) system does not work as promised. The output power is less than specified, and the fuel cells overheat, and must be shut down, after several hours of operation. This could a result of operating in the warmer Mediterranean. The Germans designed, and used, their AIP system in the cooler waters of the North Sea.
The propellers are noisy, and the periscope vibrates when the boat is traveling faster than five kilometers an hour. There are leaks, and some equipment doesn't work, or work as specified. http://www.strategypage.com/htmw/htsub/articles/20061211.aspx
I guess the Greeks are ditching the German built boat but are going to continue with the Three to be built in Greece.
It appears the Koreans fixed theirs.
