View Full Version : Fireing With Auto Target

I don't have the hang of using the TDC etc., so auto-targetting for now will have to do. The problem is that to fire the torpedo I need to lock the target. I've read that I can locate the crosshairs where I want on the target and shoot. I looked everywhere but haven't found a keyboard command to fire the torpedos. In order to move the crosshairs I have to move my mouse, to move the mouse without moving the crosshairs, I have to lock the target. What am I missing here?
Thank you. :hmmm:

Don't move the scope with the mouse. Either use the arrow keys to position and the mouse to fire, or position the scope (once you've sent the data for the ship to the TDC) and wait for the target point to cross it.

First,Set Speed and Depth Settings and open the tube doors,Point your crosshairs ahead of the target and switch mouse control to the red launch button, Wait.

Lock is not needed and will reset your torpedo settings, i never use it during an attack, only when tracking and setting up.

When target crosses where you want the torps to hit press the button. Click the next tube and repeat until target is sunk.

Make sure you have opened the Torpedo Doors before firing, this can cause a delay and cause a miss astern of the target.

That never occurred to me, I'll give it a try, thanx guys. :)

On that note, I found that if I have opened one door and try to open another the previous one will close
I have RSRD and OpMonsun installed, would that have anything to do with it? Thank you, I appreciate the help!

I have to admit I haven't tried it with fleet boats, I've been trying to get a U-boat career under way with limited success. I have to learn that not all merchant ships are defenseless. :damn:

You open one door and the previous door closes..? That's strange. Are you playing Uboats? I honestly don't recall that happening. I've read many fleetboats and Uboat books and often the skipper gave the command to open doors 1- whatever at the same time. Obvious if they charged the tubes they wanted to shoot. It was not a good thing to flood the tubes with torps and not use them. They had to pull the torps out, rework them, ect..but still resulted in torp failures.

That's one thing I wish they could mod in the game, you flood a tube, it took the correct amount of time. If you didn't shoot, you must pull the torps back in and then they would have a higher failure rate next go round.
Course we already have the high failure rate, but what the heck.

I have the same problem with US subs, however for german subs in your TDC there is a switch or knob that allows you to fire either single or salvo shots. Set it to salvo ... then on the TDC you will notice another knob/switch that allows you to choose which combo of tubes you wish to fire. Make your selection. Then ... when you order one of those tubes open ... all of your selected tubes will open. Test it out ... and confirm via external camera before you commit to the method in actual combat conditions. :D

Yes that works quite well on the U-Boat, a salvo of 2 torps to the boiler section of a merchant finishes the job in a hurry :)

The game uses enter key to fire torpedoes, which can cause problems if your keyboard's enter keys are linked. Firing torpedoes when you are trying to go into time compression is annoying. I used jimimadrid's SH_Keymapper to map the fire torpedo to the "F" key.

Thanx for the tip, I should be able to move the periscope with my mouse and hit the F key when it seems right :DL

Enter or Space should fire by default, but this has been removed in most major mods.

I think your issue is the fact that you're not using the Lock on key, which is L.
When I use auto target I do the following:
1. Find the target using periscope;I left click the mouse to control the periscope and then move the mouse until a yellow/red/green triangle shows up, meaning I have a ship in my sights.
2. Hit the L key to lock the periscope onto target. The periscope will now automatically track the ship.
3. Left click the mouse again so the mouse cursor pops up, enabling me to move mouse without moving the scope).
4. Drag out the little torpedo control box on the right hand side of the box.
5. Open torpedo doors(for a quicker shot, but you can skip this step if you're having problems with the doors closing).
6. Wait until tringle turns from yellow to green.
7. When triangle is green I hit the red button on each torpedo tube I want to fire.
8. Watch the outcome.

:yeah:

Even better, steal Ducimus' trick from TMO and remap it to Ctrl-Enter. That way it is a two key combination impossible to execute by accident.:D

Then while you're at it, might as well continue the larceny by remapping time compression. Keep the + and - keys for speed up and slow down, but make the backspace into an instant 1x instead of zero time compression. If you really want zero compression, you can still press backspace then -. But being able to instantly go to real time is priceless!

You can go instantly to real time by hitting escape twice.

I have the OM_MultiCmd_Keys mod installed along with OpMonsunwhich makes myENTER key go to 1X imediately. I have my F key remapped now and it is ideal, as I move the crosshairs to find the sweet spot, I can fire the torpedo at will. Thanks for all your input guys!:)
