So, the demo for this was released a day or two ago and the full game will be out later this week. Anyone else give the demo a shot? I made my way through most of it before wimping out. All I've got to say is that its very good, I'll definitely buy it and immediately hate myself for it, just like when I bought Penumbra.

Yeah, saw that trailer a while ago. To be honest, I don't think I can stomach it. :haha:
Just watching it creaps me out. Playing it would probably just result in me barring myself in a room and huddling in a corner, rocking back and forth while wimpering softly. :nope:

If i play this i wont be drinking any coffee before hand, I find if i drink a couple cups of coffee then play a horror game it triples the OMG POOP MY PANTS!! factor. :DL caffeine man, makes your senses over-sensitive. Drink coffee, play game, freak out, drink some more :har:

I also fit in the too wimpy to play category.
I have enough trouble finishing Dead Space. :haha: Saw my first monster in Silent Hill 2 and I turned it off.
The scariest game I've actually gotten far in is Allen Wake.

Too manly to scream like a little girl. :haha:
The scartiest games I've played are:
Half life (Ravenholm, or any of the heavy zombie areas can be creepy.)
RE4 and 5.
FEAR 1(had to return it before I could finish it)
Dead Space
And Currently working on Allen Wake. Which has made me jump a time or two. (A garbage can was knocked over and I jumped lol, and I also went into this cabin that was all trashed and there was blood in, something walked by one of the windows and dissapeared.)
After playing Two episodes of Allen Wake, I had an Allen Wake themed dream.
I watched that video and couldn't even finish it. Though I downloaded the demo but I'm not sure do I dare to play it...
Edit: Sorry for nitpicking Spike88 but it's Alan Wake :).

I have to say I never much cared for the penumbra series, mainly as the character you play is such a freaked out sissy that would do stupid things (like when hiding from a dog behind something and watching it, he got so scared he stood up). That and he starts hyperventalating. Most people when terrified practically stop breathing and freeze up.

Read the review for this and it does look good. Played Penumbra, but was too much of a wimp to finish it, so will be too much of a coward to get this - unless it comes with additional sets of spare underwear.

I have to admit I'm also in the 'too manly to [do anything that might make me] scream like a little girl' group...
Half life (Ravenholm, or any of the heavy zombie areas can be creepy.)
Oh dear god yes, in order to make it through Ravenholm I had to play some righteous music and try to put on my best warface, at least until I met up with Father Grigori

I remember that, right after you have to kill the possessed park ranger :o When I went into that cabin and saw that freakin shadow outside I was like 'HOLY $#^%' and flipped on the lights in a hurry. Just wait till you get to the end of the game, and have to go down an entire highway in the dark...

HL Ravenholm wasn't scary for me, those dudes which looked like they have pumpkins on their heads was more funny than scary. Ravenholm was one of the best levels for me though, teaming up with the russian guy & going on a mad shooting spree.
Fear 1 after seeing the girl in the start that was it i knew this game wasn't going to have any fear at all that girl was a huge disappointment its like the devs watched The Ring to many times where they thought the idea of having a girl that looked about 9 with hair over her face must be really scary. I found The Ring scary  but the game with her in it was just laughable and made me really peed off that i was hoping I would get to blow her to bits later on.
Dead Space yep made me jump to many times!
System Shock II that game still scared me after all these years i loaded it up last year to finish it cause first time back when it came out in 1999 I got lost and knew I would have to back track but was too damn scared to do it so stopped playing it.:haha:
2nd time round I finished it. Theres a mod out where it makes the graphics pretty good especially the characters as its an old game but near perfect no bugs. Probably the best RPG/FPS horror game ever to come out. Going by the ending there should of been a System Shock 3 Ive been hoping for years that some game company will make this.

I knew something was wrong. :haha:
I typed it Allen the first time and thought it looked odd so I removed an L, spell check informed me that Alen was not a word. So i just added the L and gave up.

I don't remember killing a ranger at that point. It's right down the hill where you leave Barry(I think that's his name) behind. First Cabin, I believe I was listening to a radio entry andd there is a blood stain on the floor. I turned around and something walked past the door/window.
The next Cabin creeped me out also, I was watching the TV and the ambient noises in the show made me jumpy. I think the scariest parts of this game aren't when you're in combat, but the times when you don't know what to expect. Like the sawmill.
I haven't encountered possessed items yet, but do not look forward to them.
Although Remedy has always been slightly creepy. I remember when I was younger I got scared by one of the Nightmares in Max payne.

I think the scariest part about Ravenholm for me was the desperation. Running out of Ammo, dealing with those stupid running zombies. Or worse getting hit by the Poison headcrabs which automatically drop you down to 1 health. Although there are a lot of moments in the series which catch you off guard. Like coming upon a burnt corpse when trudging around in a dark area.
Thinking about it, the part in Episode 2 with the Stalker gave me chills.

Maybe it was before you get to Rusty, or at a completely different time, been a while since I played. Either way, it was bloody freakin scary :yep: The scariest parts are definitely the quiet parts, especially in close quarters, and the unarmed sections.

I remember the first time I saw a burnt corpse... I bumped into an object while wading through one of those flooded crevice-areas in the sewers (first playthrough), switched on the flashlight, and nearly sh@t myself silly when I saw what I had bumped. For me the scariest parts of Ravenholm were the first buildings you go through and the first time you meet a fast headcrab zombie. I burned a lot of ammo firing wildly and shouting loudly at those buggers...
Usually I don't mind zombies, but headcrabs in HL just freak me out lol
Ow hell yeah! I LOVE horror games!
Never got that far in Penumbra, but always loved how you can interact with pretty much anything, adds a great deal to the immersion. :yep:
Think (some parts of) FEAR was the last scary game I've played, not that many around sadly. :-?
Yeah, FEAR in a dark room with the headset cranked up was a thrill. Until it started sucking.

Yeah it was before Rusty. I hated the part where I was unarmed and I had to help the hunter dude by shining my flash light and using flares. Almost died because the arse was aiming at someone farther away when there was someone hitting me.

I think the main reason the headcrabs have bestowed fear in us is from the Original Half life where you would have to crawl through dark vents, only to turn the corner and have one attack your face.

If you own HL2 for the PC there will be a mod remaking the original HL.
Two other games that creeped me out:
Oblivion: The ghost creeped me out until I realized they couldn't go through walls, although I typically avoided areas with large amounts of them. And the Oblivion gates had me on edge. :haha:
Fallout 3: Ghouls in dark places. Especially that building full of ghouls. And the deathclaws. I heard the last expansion is the creepiest. I bought it along with all the other ones, and ended up losing my disk before finishing the one about aliens.

I have to say HL2 didn't scare me very much. FEAR was more shock value and stupid tricks and got predictable very fast. Dead Space became very predictable (like those monsters faking it on the ground) very quick for me, so did Doom 3
Now I did find the aliens vs predator series very creepy (mainly as a marine). Probably one of the scariest places though for me would have been Thief 3 in Shalebridge Cradle.

The first time I saw a Deathclaw in Fallout 3 I was just happily walking around, heard something strange but relatively subtle behind me and turned to find the beast charging at me. I only lived because I had the Lincoln Repeater and a nearby critter to abuse the VATS recharging perk with.
AvP with the Marine was a pure nightmare. I think it's the game that made me truly enjoy Squad-based games.
This game sounds so scary I'm not even inclined to try. Especially now that my house is making noises at night... brrrr... :-?
I just finished it and it's not that scary if you get closeup look on the Igor-like monsters and get more knowledge how to avoid contact with them.
But I will not dare play this game on heavy hangover :dead:

Can you play this game without the music?
I always like to turn the music down but keep the sound effects up. I hate games where you are forced to listen to the music. It kinda ruins it for me.
If I were sneaking through a castle/dungeon/haunted house, the first thing I would do is turn off the walkman dude. :har:
