A chilling prospect indeed.

The opening mission in World in Conflict: Soviet Assault is pretty chilling, too. The authentic recreation of Berlin, the blind obedience of the Soviet forces (especially captain Malashenko), the fighting all around you... I've played "Cold War Gone Hot" games before, but WiC was the first one I'm aware of that gave it that chilling atmosphere it deserved.

Though WiC is a good game, it's permise of a NATO-Warsaw Pact war was one of the least realistic I've seen (I have yet to play Soviet Assault, though. Plan to do that at some point).

I think the fictional work that comes closest to a realistic portrayel of such a scenario (at least that I've seen) is Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising, though it does suffers from misestimates and lack of data because it was written during the Cold War.

It's in my favourites already :03:

It's very well made, I'd like to get it on DVD but it doesn't seem easy to come by.

Other videos I've come across on the subject include:

1983: The Brink of Apocalypse

Red Storm Rising (fan made, good footage)

It's an area I'm rather interested in, particularly the 1970s-80s flash-point. I agree with Raptor, WiC was well made, but fell apart a bit when the US invasion was launched, very implausible...but I guess it had to be done for gaming purposes.

Yeah I like it a lot too. Mainly because it's composed of real news clip or videos except of the narrative of course.

Countdown to Looking Glass is one of my favorite films. Sadly no DVD or Blu Ray...

If only they had a movie in the soap opera style out of news studio scenes they had in the movie as a direct sequel to it. Starting RIGHT at the moment EBS sounded.

Would last ditch negotiations work?

Told from a perspective of someone trying to shelter while watching a portable TV of the EBS would be one HELL of a chilling movie in my opinion even if there was no attack.
