Thats how stock works. It sucks intensely. i suggest going into the download section and getting critical hit torpedoes. all merchants sunk within 1-2 hits.

It took 4 to sink the Ark Royal with Critical hits mod for torps.

Same mod it took me 2 torps. The point of the mod is that it is variable, but the low end of the variation is slightly lower then stock, and the high end is much more powerful then stock.

Well...it seems to me that the mod doesn't explain the odd behaviour of stock
In stock every torp's damage is 120-180
Well
to sink oiler 7000 tons 3 hits 540 damage
to sink BB Queen Elizabeth 33000 tons 2 hits abow 360 damage
I don't understand:o

I found that hitting the hull where the fore mast of a Merchant is with a torp creates a mini-nuclear mushroom cloud.:D

without knowing much about modding sh5 the sh3 and sh4 games had screwed up damage models that always made some ships sink too fast or too slow. in those games each ship needed correcting individually so tweaking the torps was the easier and simpler solution which got you close to desired results but the correct way would be to fix each ship one at a time, due to the amount of work involved, few ever tried doing it.
The strangest thing I have noticed is when I fire a torpedo and then something (like a ship for instance) gets in the way........they explode! Oh well back to the drawing board :har:

Maybe I can explain this...
When you hit a warship (which usually fast moving) with your torpedoes, the hole from the explosion scoops the water to the ship interior... This may explain why the ships which usually fast-moving like warships in common or fast-moving merchants such as troop transport or Middleton merchant could be sunk faster compared with victory or liberty cargo...
