The first sub sim i got was SH3, played that to death, then got SH4, played that for a while but went back to SH3, got SH5 played that for about 8 hours and went back to SH3, ( just goes to show that pretty graphics are not everything).

For me SH3 with GWX3 gold is the best of the series, the game play is everything anybody could want from a sub sim, boredom, high tension, frustration, its got the lot, which is really down to the GWX team that took it to another level.

I wonder how many others have gone this route and always come back playing SH3 with GWX.

So, thank you to all the GWX team and all the other modders that helped to make SH3 the best sub sim ever. (IMO).

For me personally, this is the SH3 what I value most, and of course GWX3,and from the aspect GWX Dev. Team has been very good,SH3 gives a historical journey, but that the modders have also "done a good job. :yep:

This is a major problem with the gaming world of today.. they missed this major fact completely.

I had no intention what so ever to buy SH5 as I already got SH3 and with GWX3.0 Gold I see no reason what so ever to buy another U-Boat game. You can keep all your pretty graphics and eye candy as there no match for the realism of SH3/GWX.

Bought SH2. Never installed it after reading about SH3 here.

Ran the original Stock SH3, with some modifications.
Upgraded to the Encore edition, added some small mods, and modded quite a-bit myself.
(Didn't install GWX, but borrowed some of their great idés, and am grateful to them.)

Read about SH4, and decided against it.

Read about SH5, got all worked up, ordered it, read some more, and cancelled my order prior to release.

I love my SH3. Only game/sim on my computer.

SH3 has and continues to live a long eventful life mainly due to the efforts of the modding community....long may it continue http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

Even vanilla buggy SH3 was voted simulation of the year. GWX3 makes it one of the best simulations ever made. On the new hardware of today it runs smooth as silk too. :yeah:

This, too, shall pass. Wait until you get the "One Night in Bangkok" avatar.

i sat back and thought about it one day.... after i purchased SH3 and installed it on my computer, i didn't even run my first patrol in stock trim. went looking for a patch and found this place and then found GWX 2.1 and downloaded it and installed it and never have ever played stock SH3, but i do agree. i have S-Hunters from 2 to 5 and 3 is just unexplainable as its replay value is exceptional. i think what it is though is that the game can be either very authentic or arcade and the fact thats its very easy to mod to the way you play. i would have to salute all those that have ground there brains in the computer screens creating mods and burning their keyboards up on this site making SH3 in my opinion one of the greatest sims i have ever played and continue to play and plan on playing as i get older:salute:. Great work! and definitely hats off to the crew of GWX:up:. i really wish they would come back and slam a mod for SH5 though. rock on fellas....rock on:rock:,lol.

Funny thing about that. I've seen many vids and pics of SH5 and I have to say that I am not impressed with it; it seems like a cartoon if you know what I mean.

Get SH4 if you want the pacific theater and a whole different breed of submarine (US Navy). Get SH3 if you are into extreme realism. Get SH5 if your a gamer and who doesn't find simulations fun.

That's how I would recommend each sim.
