hey guys, I'm looking for tips on dogfighting. Specifically if I'm in a Ki-84 how I should engage a Spitfire. Many thanks.

Get out of the Ki84 and into a Spitfire, get behind him line him up in your sights and shoot.:D

Seriously if you are a complete noob to dogfighting, start here:http://combat-asylum.com/uploads/downloads/2009/02/5143_Newbie%27s%20Guide%20to%20IL2%20Online%20Dogf ighting.pdf

One little bit of advice:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dicta_Boelcke

Written in WW1 but still accurate for WW2, in particular number three...that's the one I always slip up on.

Also worth reading, linked from that article are rules by Malan and Mannock.
However, Tarjaks excellent links are the best for IL2 particulars :yep:.

And #8 is the one which the AI screws up on...

Ki-84 handles well in low speeds so you could try maneuvering so your speeds gets low enough so the Spit have to give up the chase or risk overshooting you in which case a quick move back to his arse might give you some free hits. :hmmm:

True but if the Spit pilot has his wits about him he'll use his speed to climbe away and then zoom and boom you so, it will be a tough fight. Depending on the mark of spit it is of course.

Time compression 1/4 = Acemaker :smug:

But seriously. I can't say I have much experience with the Ki-84, or most of the other dogfighters for that matter, (I like to go fast) but I imagine you'd use the same general turn n' burn tactics - drag them down into a fight with you and keep maneuvering until you're in a decent position.

In that case, let's hope the "if" is in favor of Schwieger. :O:

No, not an AI  I refer to human pilots

In that case I find Dowly's advice works fine. Humans get impatient, AI doesn't. When PF came out I would always fly the Hurricane online. And the rest of the world (it seemed) flew FW-190s. I would stay low and slow, by the 3rd or 4th time they tried to BnZ me they would usually get frustrated and try to turn with me. Then they would die.

This will be the first time I' d agree with Dowly on anything, yet zoom and boom is pretty much the way to go especially with early allied aircraft. Just finished a mcf 2 Flying Tigers campaign with a p 40B you don't get low and slow with a Zero, in that brick, speed is life, it also helps to be a good shot. Question is there a decent Battle of Britian download out there, like to fly the Spitfire when I can.
