I like to mod my games more than play them. So that means scouring the internet for tools and knowledge. I came across one such site containing both for Wings Over Vietnam. So I have to register to download this utility, no big deal. That is until I saw this, NOTICE: If you use a proxy server or an IP address that does not have a reverse DNS to register with and you use a generic or free email account for registration the likelihood of being rejected by the spam software is very high. We recommend using your home computer and personal email address to register with our site. Free email accounts like gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc. are considered a higher risk spam account and they are not recommended for use with this site. We are not responsible for lost "anonymous" registrations in our system. And I only use yahoo.:damn: Makes me wonder how many lost souls get discouraged and turn away from their site. Hence why I love Subsim.:yeah:

I ran into the same kind of thing trying to join a gamers forum once. Because I use gmail, I was not permitted to join !
What rubbish!

Actually, I don't think that SubSim permits gmail accounts either. Every time Neal allows it we are inundated with bots.

I noticed problems occurring with my Hotmail account about a year or two ago and switched to a secondary account I created from my isp and have never had a problem since.

Yeah, when I tried joining subsim I had problems; firstly with usernames being taken and then because I was trying to use a hotmail account - took me ages to realise that the previous dozen names I tried had been ok and that it was hotmail that was now the issue! Ended up using my work email, and only just turned off instant notifications, after a weekend I'd open Outlook and there'd be about 70 notifications from subsim! :D Obviously they took priority over work emails!
the need for email accounts, but gmail and netscape have a higher level of security, as Hotmail or Yahoo, etc.
