I've read of this problem before but, do not remember what the cause was, or how to fix it. Someone will be along shortly who remembers.

I suppose you could try one of the binoculars mods and see if their version of the binocs displays properly.
Here's one (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=1239) to get you started.

Heh - I've been playing for months and never realized they were supposed to have binoculars -- I thought they were just shading their eyes.
I searched back through past threads, and it seems to be linked to low end graphics cards that do not support pixel shader 1.1. These were old threads from 2006 so, I can't be sure that is what is happening now.

That could be it .I had that happen when i tried to run sh3 on a low end laptop.
I have also this problem on my laptop. I've Intel 950 as graphic card, with the newest drivers (2008).
There is a way i.e. modifing Cameras.dat or whatever .dat file in order to have binoculars back?
Thanks for replies!
