I'm a little annoyed. I'm running SH4 1.4 stock and intend to upgrade to 1.5 and TMO once I finish my first carreer, but I might be changing my mind about that. I'm hoping this is addressed in 1.5/TMO.
I just returned from my 8th patrol and received a Medal of Valor. My boat (Salmon class) also received a "half cut tub" upgrade during the refit. Basically, it looks like my conning tower got streamlined.
Here's what ticked me off: When I entered port, I had Improved SD Radar, SJ Radar, Twin AA guns, and a 4 50 deck gun. After my "upgrade", both of my Radar slots were "Empty", my AA gun was back to a single, and my deck gun was down to a 3 50. The boat still has the same name (Snapper), so I don't think I was assigned a new boat.
So, I had to spend some renown on getting all the equipment back, which is annoying itself but, what really made me blow my stack, was when I left on my next patrol. I HAVE NO RADAR!!!! NO SJ!!! NO SD!!!! NOTHING!!!!!! I do have the twin AA gun and the 4 50 DG back.
I reloaded my save before I entered port, thinking I screwed up somewhere, and went through the whole process again. I triple-checked that I had Improved SD and SJ Radar in the slots before taking my next patrol. When I left port for my next patrol.... no radar... not even SD. What the Hell?
I know it's just a game and that it's just "modeling" real life, but I can't imagine any skipper putting up with this crap in real life and leaving port with far less equipment than he came in with, especially something as vital as SD Radar. To add another WTF? aspect to this. I returned from my last patrol at ~2030 on November 24. Departure on my subsequent patrol was ~1730 on November 25. So they did all this to my boat in under 24 hours?
I'm currently about 20 miles outside of Brisbane and I'm seriously considering taking the renown hit and ending the patrol right now. Maybe I'll get my radar back. They're sending me to the same area I patrolled last time and I encountered heavy air coverage there. The SD saved my bacon more than once and I'm not happy about not having it.
Thanks for letting me vent. Are situations like this addressed in 1.5/TMO, or are situations like this historically accurate?
