Hi people.
I would to play SH3 (simple game,I have no mods installed) at widescreen resolutions (1920*1080 or 1680*1050) because I have got a 22" monitor with native resolution of 1920*1080 full HD.

What can I do ? Is there any patch or any file to modify ?

Pls answer as soon as possible ! :DL

There's a mod out right now that is specifically made for widescreen ration monitor's. It's pretty much like an alpha version that is still be worked on and improved upon everyday. Just look in the mods section, its on a sticky. I play on my 21" widescreen and everything looks fine to me, doesn't look like you're using 680/480 which would make everything enormous, everything seemed to be in good proportion.

high res mod works great at 1920 1200. Very simple to setup, just read the readme.

I think I installed it, it seemed to go correctly, but when I play the game all the round items are oval, so it is obviously stretching things left and right.

Those widesscreen mods did have some issues with screendumps working differently or something. And might look strechted flattening all objects.

Another option is to let your graphic card strecht the 1024x 768 image up to max resolution. (make sure the widescreen mods are not installed) Usually the driver also has an option to maintain aspect-ratio, so circular objects do not get squashed into ellipses. That does mean you get empty black bands on the side of your screen, but I think that is more prefferable than flatted dials, or looking at fat crew. A lesser desirable effect is that the image is a bit fuzzy, since the 1024 resolution simply doesn't have enough detail as the 1920 resolution. But that is a limitation you can't solve until there are dedicated widescreen GUIs.

Since there's no native support for ws in SH3 you're left with a give-take scenario. Some of the widescreen mods will work and show everything in their correct aspects, but won't allow for any gui mods; otherwise there is no guarantee of what will happen - its use at your own risk. The other's stretch the gui like some graphics cards do naturally, but can't preserve the shapes thus you'll get elongation and oval shapped dials.

Unless you've got a large square monitor you're going to be stuck giving up one concession, whether it is oval shaped images or a lack of any choice in gui mods.

I play on a 22" 1680x1050 just using the old highres fix, and dials only have a barely noticable oval shape.
Of course if you play on a 16/9 screen, it will surely look worse.
This is why I hold unto my 16/10 old screen.
Edit : I play on XP Pro SP3

Just use this one:

Works fine. Combined with scaling you have the full joy of your 1920 x 1080.

Have tried that one a few times, one line in there keeps biting me and can't get it to work:

"this mod is made for unmodded GWX3.0/unmodded stock game. It will break any mod that uses the same files."

Am assuming that the olc gui is what causes it to ctd, would rather play in a smaller window than go back to using the stock gui.

Hey thanks for that mod. It's working great. Just one thing:

So when you left click and lock the view to your mouse - bridge, guns, periscope/UZO. Then you left click again to unlock the view from the mouse.

On 1024x768, when you left click to unlock the view, the cursor appears right in the middle of the screen. On 1920x1080, the cursor lands in the lower right corner of the screen, right on the fire button :( and fires a torpedo which is really really annoying. It means you have to use arrows for your view and should you lock your periscope/UZO view by mouse, the way to not fire a torpedo is to change station ( e.g. F5 to map ). Or if you have an empty tube selected.

The cursor always lands and "clicks" the same spot on the screen, regardless of the station. If it's not periscope/UZO but deck gun, then it lands and clicks on "HE" shells. Same for bridge or external view, only there's nothing to click there.

Guys, does any of you know where is the file / files to deal with this one in particular - the coordinates where the cursor shows ( and clicks, unfortunately :( ) upon unlock view?

Thank you so much.

Hi folks, use a 4 year "old" MSi GX740, Win7 Home Premium 64bit SP1, i5, AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5800 series. Had SH3 and SH3GW installed and all worked well on a nice widescreen. Got a virus and had a complete new Win7 HP installation. All my sims (flight, train, etc) work well in full screen, except SH3. Did several new installs (from original disk as well from HD's), read the forum-topics about this item from left to right and back, tried every mentioned solution and still nada, niente, nothing that works. As far as I remembered the solution should be in the AMD-settings, but I haven't the slightest idea where I can find them and what to do. Suggestions more than welcome :).

Hi Akktungbby, thanks!

Finally I did find a solution for my SH3 widescreen problem: the AMD has a so-called Catalyst Center (I had to download it) and in there you can set the screen format you want.

So let's get hunting....
