I am running GWX, and at sea in late march 1940 just finished my ordered patrol off Oslo.
Now, this is the first time I can be on patrol in the opening days of the invasion, so my question is where is the coolest place to be for the operation?
:shucks:
Well, the German convoys will hit all the ports they did in real life. The British will go to the Northern ports if you want to intercept them.

Guess outside of narvik is the place to be, even though I kinda want to see if they included the loss of the Blücher
I had quite a nice run in with three fat troop transports with a heavy escort (several destroyers and a cruiser) heading East towards Norway in grid AF53 on 13th April, 1940.
This video I made might whet your appetite:

Although I make no mention of it in the video due to a lack of footage, while stalking this task force I simultaneously encountered a carrier task force heading on a perpendicar course at high speed on a roughly SSW bearing.
Needless to say these are a lot of juicy targets in a small area, though the area in general seemed heavily saturated with task forces. I encountered yet another carrier task force off the south-west of Norway when I was returning to Kiel with empty tubes, possibly the same one I saw near Narvik on a return leg of their patrol.

I like the fjord leading in towards Narvik, seemed to be plenty of RN task forces heading in and out of there. Managed to intercept one of them and sink the Warspite a couple of patrols back.
Plus the water is so lovely and deep in most of it, and they all have to pass through there at some point if they're working the Narvik end of things. So no worries about not being able to run as deep as you need to for evasion and escape purposes should it come to that.

I used that tactic, not so deep that I didn't have room, but a nice deep water that is constricted on the way to Narvik (That is one long Fjord!)
I saw the German surface navy come in, that night, a group of five DD came charging down, I was almost out of place, but I was able to radio it in, dive, and use my stern shot to take out the lead C&D, Dived deeply to 90 meters, and they where not good ASW, and then headed on, came to the surface, and got a cool message, that all forces where busy and try to do your best!
Nice Touch GWX!
I was waiting when they exited, they where a little more north, so I sunk another C&D on the way out, and the three left in quick hurry.
I stayed in the Fjord, and I get the notice another task force is heading my way, and I end up out of place where I wanted to be, but in ideal for what happened. It was a calm night, so I went silent, engines at a stop, and I had three electric and one steam torp in the tubes, I set the steam eel on fast/impact, one and two on impact, and tube three on mag and running deep.
I sat and watched the HMS Nelson sail up the fjord, at 1800 meters, when the gyro said 355, I fired tube 1, tube 2 went at gyro 358, and 3 went off at 000, I waited the about 20 seconds for the steam to get to 000, fired it, lowered the scope, and cool as a cucumber, ordered 90 meters of depth, but left the engines off, so I slowly drop as my torps ran.
four hits, and the nelson was devastated, lots of great booms, must of set off a magazine! :arrgh!:
as soon as i heard the first ping, I crashed dive and made a 90 degree turn, and went to slow at 75 meters, and sneaked off and came home as there was dozens of planes, and I didn't want to push my luck, and arrived as the hero of Narvik, but no medals....
the Third Reich come and takes over, stay late and then a British TF comes try to rescue norway,so This is HMS Nelson and approx 8-10 DD sounds good, if you want more GRT

Yep, follows the general history, The nelson had about 8 escorts, looked like C&D and Tribal class. I just stopped in a hole in their screen, and fired and must of had a odd acoustics, as the escorts where very tame vs. even say, a 1940 convoy escorts.
I am just peeved that I didn't get my Oak Clusters on my Knights Cross after sinking a major battleship.
My current guy just topped 200,000 Tons in tonnage, hopefully in the next turnaround he might catch some rich convoys coming out of Norway as the British Start to exit, that, and almost earned enough renown to get a IX.
Back in the days of GWX 2.1 I attacked an anchored transport fleet in one of them fjords. I was as nervous as a new bride as I set up my approach in shallow water. Forget how many transports and total tonnage I sunk, but it was a nice score and I did manage to get away with it. GWX Gold does an excellent job or depicting major operations that we as players can attack.

A long time back I went up Oslofjord behind the task force and witnessed the shore batteries firing at the ships. I do not remember exactly what the outcome was but, there were sinkings in and around the harbor. The harbor was a mess with sunken ships making maneuvering difficult.
