Here's some new footage for the Red Orchestra game. I never played the first but heard it was good. I've always been a fan of Day of Defeat and Day of Defeat Source, and this definitely looks like it'll be worth the purchase.

I like the fact that the Commander actually has to stand infront of a radio to call in support. I also like everything they showed for the sniper rifle(which is my favorite class in any game)
Anyone play the first? Is it worth getting on Steam for $9.99? And how many people still play?

The original is definitely worth $10, though I don't know how many are still playing as I haven't played it myself in a while.
Just prepare to die, a lot.

After seeing the first video I'm actually not so tempted anymore :hmmm:. Seems a bit arcade. . . .

How so?
The graphics seems a bit lackluster . . . . and somehow the gameplay reminds a lot of the older Call of Duty which translates to cramped spaces, a lot of dying because of that and close quarter battle which I don't really like.
I'm watching the second video and see whether my opinion holds

Graphics don't matter at all to whether the game is arcadish or not.
If the first game is any indication, it's nothing at all like Call of Duty. Most of the maps were huge (Some had tanks and such too) and the range at which combat was conducted was pretty high. Besides that, RO is also the most realistic WWII shooter I know of as well when it comes to weapon performance and ballistics.

Yea I heard all the good comments on the first
But now the field is Stalingrad which means a lot of walking along the street, a lot of fighting in cramped half destroyed buildings instead on the open hill...
The sniper hands were too steady too for my taste for the sake of RO hype.
Plus recoil I want to see more of that!
It's not about making this kind of shooter game easier so that you could tally your kills into the hundreds but making each kill very rewarding especially when you take care of not getting killed a formula which IL-2 put forward to its best effect then.

I highly doubt this game will be arcadey. I can't think of any arcade games that feature adjustable sights/scopes, and bullet trajectory. I guess we'll have to keep our eyes on it up until release.

Yea you can't judge a game from two short clips. Every ArmA 2 youtube clip sucks imo but the game is great LOL
I just hope they wouldn't make it easier. Just make it as realistic as it possibly can even when it at first feels painful and then they'll have my money.

You're basing conclusions from not enough information.
Stalingrad, besides the famous urban combat locations, had plenty of areas that could suit large scale open warfare. One doesn't know what maps are going to be in until they release the game.
In the first RO everything was practically impossible to aim properly and had huge recoil unless you steadied your gun on a ledge or something, which they do in the videos.

The maps will definitely be big enough to have proper tank gameplay. :hmmm:

Still one of the best MP games out there. :salute: No, not Source, but the older ones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yef6PlCYzx8

Aaah thanks for that information.
If Heroes of Stalingrad is anything like the first one, I can guarantee it is definitely not an arcade game. I don't see a reason why they would change it to arcadish like as there already is several good arcadish game out, so most likely RO: HoS is going to be realistic.
This is a must buy for me. Ostfront is one of the best, if not the best, ww2 game.

The first game I played with dismemberment like that is Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway.

I'll definitely be checking this out.
Back when RO was a UT mod I was a beta tester (under the name BFC|Arsenal if anyone played back then ;)). I loved Ostfront and really loved the Resistance and Liberation mod for it. Hopefully this will break the Red Orchestra cycle of massive release popularity and empty servers a month later. Every new incarnation has been that way sadly.
